Tivo is freezing

I have a Hughes dtv tivo and it started freezing about 2 weeks ago. It does it while watching live tv, recorded shows and even shows that were recorded months before it started with the problem. I deleted most of the other shows just in case the hd was full but not help.
The easiest thing to change I would think is the HD. Where can I find what is the version I need to install in the unit. I am computer literate so some basic instructions will help me a lot. I know the os is linux base but I have no idea where to find it.

The season pass dont work either. We have to select the programs to be recorded daily.

I was not able to get the system up with the 9 hours long restore from the faulty hd. No surprises there. I got to the zipper page and followed the instructions and in a matter of 2 hours was watching tv. However, I can't find the tivo remote so I was not able to reset all to clear and installed the wrong script for video extraction. So I will get the hd back in to the pc and do the process again. I need to go to Best Buy and hope that they still have tivo's remotes. My universal remote does not have an emulation for the thump down which I need to reset and clear my tivo memory. Thanks everyone...
