View Full Version : Only recording audio now, why?

I've been using the TiVo with no problems until just this past sunday when all of a sudden all the shows are only recording audio and the screen says:

Copy Protection
The DVI/HDMI output is blocked
Press Exit to Cancel

Why did this suddenly start happening? I didn't change anything (the cable box, connections, etc). It just started doing this and has been doing it all week. Any help? I searched the help forum and couldn't find anything like this. TIA!

yes, it's being generated by the cable box (i'm pretty sure). the message goes away once i turn on the tv (then the tivo will record the video) or if i unplug the hdmi cable from the cable box. i don't want to resort to leaving the tv on all the time or not being able to watch live hdtv when not using the tivo. i don't know a way around this right now, and i'm not sure why it started happening. maybe something on the cable company's end?

If you've changed nothing on the cable box, then all I can think of is to call the cable company. Are you sure you didn't do anything like change the output format on the cable box?

This is happening to my tivo also within the last 3 wks. First it started out as a buzzing sound & I did a reset & now the picture is being blocked on only the basic channels.

I called cabelvision & they said that it can only be recorded w/ the HD DVR box when HDMI cables are being used. Is this true or is it their way of getting me to rent their DVR? Has anyone else figured it out?

It could be a software update that "broke" S-video output when HDMI is connected, and the TV off.

Resolution:
A:Go to component video
2: Get a separate cable box for the TiVo.

This is strange, last night my wife was recording American Idol and only the audio recorded.

This is NOT a TiVo recorder, it is TW Scientific Atlantic 8300HD, could this be related or just a coincident?

Just coincedent most likely.
