First I just want to state how great it is that this forum exists. I've been reading it every since I purchased my TiVo but I didn't join until today.

I'm pretty sure that my TiVo's power supply is blown, but I wanted to check here before I order a new one.

It's a Series 2 model TCD240080 that I've had for almost two years.

When I plug in the power cable neither the fan nor the hard drive begins to spin. The only video that is output is a thin horizontal white line, that jumps up and down the screen. I left the TiVo unplugged yesterday for most of the day and tried again plugging it in again last night. That time there was a much thicker horizontal line that displayed but the other symptoms are the same. Also, immediately when I plug it in, I hear the audio from the channel my cable box is set to.

I'm prepared to order a new power supply from weaknees and I really hope that's all that is wrong. This unit has lifetime so I want to do everything possible to avoid getting a new one.

What do you think?

Worth a try - how much are they charging? Power supplies are offered occasionally on eBay at a reasonable price.

Now why would someone have a good TiVo power supply for sale on E-Bay? Wouldn't they get more for the complete TiVo that it was removed from?

My new power supply arrived yesterday and it did the trick. That was a weird several days without TiVo. I couldn't stand being forced to watch live tv. Glad it wasn't more serious and I didn't need to replace the HD, thus losing all my season pass and wishlist data.

Now maybe something else went wrong with the TiVo and they didn't feel like fixing it but the power supply works just fine.

Now maybe a person's modem circuit quit calling out and they didn't feel like blowing their money on that hokey external modem fix.
