One of my Philips DSR708 decided to start an endless loop. When I sat down to watch 'LIVE TV' (very rarely do), not pressing any keys on the remote, my recvr changed to the screen 'WELCOME POWERING UP' then changed to 'ALMOST THERE. JUST A FEW MINUTES MORE...'. This started at 7PMCST and hasn't stopped.
I have done a few things to possibly stop the madness;
RESET
RESET W/O ACCESS CARD
RESET W/O SAT 1 & 2
RESET W/O ACCESS CARD & SAT 1 & 2 CABLES
MOVED PROB RECVR TO WORKING LOCATION, RESULTS, SAME MADNESS.
MOVED PROB RECVR BACK TO PROB LOCATION, RESULTS, SAME MADNESS.
(RESET = UNPLUG FR ELECTRICAL OUTLET 15 SECONDS)
(RECVR = Philips DSR708)
Is there a drug that will help this insanity? Any resolution? Please don't tell me I will have to call DTV and get a replacement. I am an addict and don't want the generic dvr, I want my TIVO!!! :eek:

You can leave it on and plugged into a phone line for a day or two to possibly fix itself. If that does not work, you can request a replacement. I have heard lately of requesting a replacement 'Tivo' DVR and threatening to cancel service if they suggest the replacement will be the R15. You may need to be transferred to customer retention if they try the R15 route.

Most likely your DVR's hard drive has died ....
*** If you're comfortable opening up your Tivo (which will void your warranty if you still have one), then disconnect and reconnect all the cables leading to the hard drive(s). Sometimes connections can work loose, or tarnish, and re-seating them will help.
*** You can try a "Clear and Delete Everything" (in the Tivo's "Messages & Setup" menu). That might help the drive repair itself, but you will lose your recordings, Season Passes, and other settings. Of course, if it's constantly rebooting you won't be able to launch a "clear and delete everything".
*** If these steps fail, then you might want to try connecting your Tivo drive(s) to your PC and run the disk manufacturer's DOS-based diagnostic utilities. These are usually available for download from their web site. Unfortunately they don't always detect all of the failures that can disrupt your Tivo. Some folks have reported success using the SpinRite disk repair utility available from Gibson Research at http://www.grc.com/sr/spinrite.htm or HDD Regenerator at http://www.dposoft.net/#b_hddhid
