I'm experiencing problems recieving Sat 119, it's because of one of my neighbors trees. I'm considering moving my dish all the way to the back of my property so I can shoot from the other side of these trees.
How far is too far to run cables from the dish to my receivers?
Anyone know?

In my complex I have runs of over 200 feet with no problem using good quality RG-6 cables.

I guess I need to go measure then! It would probably be AT LEAST 200 feet.
I shouldn't have thrown out my old round dish, it would be nce to test with!
All in all, I'll probably wait until next spring anyhow, the only thing on 119 is HDNET and DHD, and ESPN2HD, and I only seem to have a problem when it's windy right now.
I suspect it will only get worse, but at least 101 and 110 seem clear of the tree.

These trees you speak of, are they on the neighbors property or do they hang over yours? If they hang over your porperty and are causing problems you should be within rights to cut what is over your property. We have done runs around 400 feet from dish to switch and then 50-100 from switch to receiver and everything works great. Good rg6 as stated, also try not to kink up the line when you run it and no tight twists or turns around anything.

when you guys say good rg6 cable, do you mean a quad shielded rg6? is the rg6 quadband at home depot any good? it only cost 60.00 for 500 feet.

Any RG6 quaility co-ax should be fine.
Just remember if you run more then 125' of cable, you will probably need an in-line amplifier.

The Quad Shield is good, but you'll need to make sure you get Quad Shield sized connectors. I'd say though that although the Quad Shield is good, it's only really needed if you have a lot of electromagnetic devices nearby that could cause interference.

Ummmmmm, not necessarily. This may vary from state to state. I would STRONGLY urge anyone to make sure they're on good ground before cutting any tree that begins on someone else's property.
