sorry if this topic has been posted about already, some searching didn't reveal any similar threads to me...

a little background, so you don't think I'm a total moron :-)

my original series 1 Sony TiVo gets "funky" (color shifting, fuzzy/split image signal worse than snow, et al) once in a while (maybe once a year?), and needs a reset to fully behave again...no biggie, figured it's a side effect of leaving it on 24/7/365...or from personally upgrading it to a 120GB hard drive, but I digress LOL...

this time around, the entire screen image was completely illegible...thought I knew the menu items well enough, that I navigated to the "reset" menu item, did my 3 thumbs down and an enter to execute it...TiVo didn't come back up normally, and I still couldn't read the message on the screen...

long story a bit shorter, it turns out it was my TV that was funky this time around, not the TiVo...so, got the TV back to normal, and then I could read the message on the screen, which was that it was deleting everything, and would take about an hour *beats head against the wall*...got that sick/sinking feeling in my stomache when I realized I had selected the "System Reset" option by mistake, not a plain Reset...meaning, it was deleting EVERYTHING...all my recorded eps (around 40 hours worth!), all my preferences, everything...

is there ANY way to undo this??? what happens if I take the harddrive out, slave it into a regular computer...aren't there traditional "restore" utilities out there that can un-delete any deleted content, as long as that portion of the hard drive hasn't been re-used? would TiVo recognize this restored content?

any help would be welcomed...and please don't tell me I'm an idiot if you don't have any help to provide :-)

thanks in advance,
-R

I'm afraid not.
The entire MFS database gets deleted and recreated. Your shows are gone.

thanks for the reply...definitely what I was afraid to hear, but expecting :(

another question...if I do pull the HD out and do an undelete from a basic level, is there any way to extract the shows in a readable/viewable format anywhere? I expect there's got to be a transferable way, based on the whole "tivo to go" stuff and the like, but not sure if the original TiVo series 1 units are just too far behind technology to make this an option? I'm not trying to break any copyrights or anything, just trying to get to watch what I already recorded legitimately and which are shows that will never be rerun again *sigh*

thanks,

again,
afraid not.
Just repeat to yourself what my wife said when our main TiVO's HD bit the dust.
"they're just TV shows"

I live by "it never hurts to ask", so I had to give it a shot LOL...

"they're just TV shows" sounds a little blashpemous *chuckle* but yeah, I know there can be life without my previously recorded shows, it's just sad to have lost them so stupidly...

thanks for your replies,
