I just purchased a refurbished model and everything works except live and recorded tv are all pixelated! DVD playback is fine. PLEASE HELP! do I have any type of warranty through toshiba? (the paperwork is confusing).

I've tried best and high quality....no change. I dont think its a resolution issue. the Pixelation is all crazy on the screen......similar to a bad internet video stream.

Could it be your setup? What's your source (analog cable, cable box, satellite, etc.)? How is everything connected?

Analog cable through the TIVO will not look that good.
Digital channels will look much better especially if you run it with the S-Video out as opposed to the composite cables.

I connect directly from the cable (no box) to my tivo through the RF connector. and then component cables to my tv. my picture is not 'grainy' it is pixelated like a bad/corrupted jpeg image. maybe the harddrive is bad, because DVD playback is perfect. Also I have another toshiba tivo hooked up the same way and the picture is great.

If another unit is working fine with the same setup, it doesn't seem to be your source and I would probably agree that the HD is going bad. Since you just purchased this refurbished, can you return it to the place of purchase?

I had display issues similar to what you are saying until the TiVo downloaded some updates to the system... it cured itself after a couple updates, I think there is a thread on here somewhere about that. Check your software / firmware versions against the TiVo latest versions and wait for the updates... it did cure my problem. Since yours is a refurb I would suspect it needs updated just like a new one.
