I currently have the Linksys 80211B router. To this, I have 3 TIvos, two laptops and two desktops in a very large house. I've been having trouble lately with the router sometimes not working until I unplug it and then plug it back in. My question is: if I get a new Router, maybe "G", would all the adapters, which are B, respond to the G Router or would I have to replace them all with new G cards and adapters? Also, would the Tivos work? On one I use wired sometimes to transfer programs, as it's faster. I have Verizon DSL. I wouldn't want to have to buy everything new, and I think G will work with B, but wanted advice. One of the desktop computers is on the 3rd floor and sometimes the signal is weak, which drives my husband crazy! It's his computer.

Any advice greatly appreciated. peggy

I had the Linksys BEFW11S4 and had the same problem. I read on a hardware related forum that this model is known to "crash" under heavy loads. Your description certainly would fit the definition of a heavy load. Unplugging / plugging the router takes care of the problem. I've upgraded to Linksys WRT54G - and it works fine.

My question is: if I get a new Router, maybe "G", would all the adapters, which are B, respond to the G Router or would I have to replace them all with new G cards and adapters? You can have the G router only work on B - therefore everything else in the house would remain the same.

Also, would the Tivos work? Yes, as long as you keep the new router on "B only" setting.
