So I am having to move to a place over the summer and thus DirecTV will not be available. So I have to get comcast cable. I'm going to use my parent's series 1 on comcast cable. I have two direcTIVO's and so want to give one to my parents to replace their Series 1 (plugged in to a sat box with IR repeater). Last time I did this DirecTV made me pay $20 for a new card for the DirecTIVO for them and then $20 again when I wanted to reactivate the DirecTIVO in my new house.

Is there any way to avoid all these $20 card charges in having to move two times in four months with two DirecTIVOs?

Keep you subscription active and use it at your parents home, then retreive your box when you move.

And why is DirecTV not available? Line of sight?

You can temporarily suspend your DirecTV account. And then reactive when ready.

It's a rented appartment so I wont beable to install a dish under the DirecTV moving program due to the short stay.

If I were to keep my subscription active at their house (a different market) then they couldn't use their subscription and would still be stuck getting their recievers new cards.
