OTA not guaranteed?

Good morning,
Well, directv just left my house saying they have issues with ota and that directv doesn't guarantee reception of any channel. The guy got on my roof..looked at the antenna and said it looks fine. It figures that when he was here my local NBC that has been giving me problems works ok..but when one of the shows I like are on at night its a different story. Just frustrating. Is it true they don't guarantee and is it worth fighting over? He kept telling me about the new 5lnb dish and I told him it won't work with my tivo...any idea when those are coming out?

They can't gaurantee that you will receive OTA. You probably just need a better antenna. Are you using that flying saucer thing from DTV? The HD Forum over at avsforums.com is a good resource for what antennas other folks in your area are using.

The antenna that DirecTV installs is horrible. You might as well send the cat up to the roof with some aluminum foil. But yes, D* doesn't guarantee OTA...there are way too many variables involved in OTA reception.

As Billy66 recommended, check out avsforum. They have local HDTV reception threads for pretty much any area, and the folks that hang out there can give you lots of tips and info.

Got to antennaweb.org to determine what type of antenna you need (directional, UHF, UHF/VHF, distance, etc). Then check out antennasdirect.com to actually purchase. Many people like the DB2/4 or Channel Master 4228 which have similar designs for UHF and high VHF. Fred
