I have 2 hr10-250s. One shows station icons the other does not. Is it a set up item or software related? Both units have the same software version - 3.1.5f-01-2-357.

Did you ever do a clear and delete all on the one that does not have icons? Clear and delete all will blow away the icons. Is the second one a refurb uint? As part of the refurb process they do a clear and delete all or load a software image without icons.
You will not get station icons until the unit receives a software upgrade or you hack the unit. Who knows when/if there will be a software upgrade.

Thanks for th reply.
I think both are refurbed units. The one without the icons had a software upgrade to the 3.1.5f... after I received it.
As I understand your reply, the icons are part of the software image?

Yes. The channel logo updates are delivered with software updates. When (if) there's a new HR10-250 software update, your DVR will again have channel logos.

I just got an HR10-250 and it doesn't have logos. This is incredibly frustrating. It was supposed to be brand new. Does this mean it's a refurbished unit? Is there any way at all to add the icons back? :(

Sounds like a refurbished unit that had a "clear and delete everything" performed to restore factory defaults. Where did you get it?
There's no easy way to restore its channel logos, other than waiting for a possible future software update. There are some challenging ways, though, if you're comfortable re-imaging your DVR with an older software image and letting it update to the latest version. How badly do you want those logos?

Pretty badly.
Actually, I have a Hughes DVR2 that is suffering from some odd sputtering problem (only very recently). My roommate thinks it has a bad hard drive, but I haven't had time to research it. I was thinking about making an image of that drive and finally getting into some TiVo hacking. Maybe I can get some practice in, then take you up on the other ways to get icons on my HR10-250.
Man, this HR10-250 has been nothing but a sore for me. I'd write a long rant, but that's neither here nor there.
Thanks for the information.

I am new to Tivo and cannot find this threw the search. How do you know if you have the Station Logos or not? Where are they displayed? My program guide does not show Station Logos but when I recorded a program it did.
Thanks in advance.
The station logos are next to recorded programs in the now playing list, not in the guide.
