I have a TiVo with the 9th tee ethernet card. Does anyone know when the TiVo gets an IP address? Is is just when it boots up? Or will it get one when it dials out.
I'm wondering what happens if the TiVo boots up when my router is turned off. Will TiVo acquire an IP address later when it does the daily call even if it couldn't get one when it booted up?
Hi,
The TiVo will aquire an address at bootup.
If your router is turned off then there your tivo won't get a DHCP address. It probably won't get an address until it is rebooted.
If this is an issue then I would recommend using nic_install and setting a static IP address:

My understanding on the S1's is that they will only pick up a DCHP IP address during bootup. So if your router was off when it last booted it won't have an IP until you reboot the Tivo when the router is on.
Just to reiterate, this is my understanding, I could be wrong.

Why not just go with a static IP?
