I think this is huge news and wanted to make sure it gets some attention in Coffee House... Dennis Wilkinson figured out how to enable TiVoBack on the new 1.9.3 Universal binary- meaning you can publish MPEG2 files on a Mac to the TiVo!

I haven't paid attention to the Mac situation for awhile, but wasn't this possible with Galleon a long time ago? When GoBack was released I was able to get files sent to my TiVo at first just using my Mac...unfortunately I was never able to get the conversion settings to MPEG2 right with any of the Mac software, but the files did make it to the TiVo.

The aforementioned thread has the beginnings of a discussion on the appropriate settings with ffmpegX to convert for the TiVo
Yeah supposedly you could do this with Galleon, but I never bothered - looked like overkill for just watching video, and way too much setup. This will be a lot easier (c:

Sweet. Good work Dennis!

I'm curious about that 'change' button... can I map a folder to my Buffalo LinkStation network attached storage? That would be pretty sweet. If someone tries it before I get home, let us know!

So is this basicly tivo2go for the mac without calling it that?

No only the "Back" part where you can send MPEG2 video to TiVo. It doesn't support getting video off your TiVo and playing it on a Mac yet.

No only the "Back" part where you can send MPEG2 video to TiVo. It doesn't support getting video off your TiVo and playing it on a Mac yet.Well, technically Mac users (and all other modern OS's) could pull up the internal webpage and download recordings from there. I don't know if .tivos can 'goBack' through this yet, but I'm sure DW and/or other people will try it out soon and report back to us.
Still no way to do true .tivo/Mac playback.

It's actually the reverse... it also you to publish MPEG2 videos to your TiVo.
For some guidance of questionable accuracy, check out this page for MPEG2 formatting:

I had class last night and got home pretty late... if others don't do some experimenting before I get home today, I'll report on .tivo transfers and if I can use my NAS.

What I meant was you can't play them on a Mac. Of course you can send .tivo files back to the Mac. Hasn't this worked in Galleon for a while now on the Mac?

Hasn't this worked in Galleon for a while now on the Mac?I wasn't arguing your point, only clarifying/expanding on it. Yeah, Galleon has done this for awhile, including sending .tivo's back. But I personally don't have a Mac and can't check, and don't know if TiVo Desktop for Mac with this hidden setting turned on will know what to do with a .tivo in the video folder. Maybe it only recognizes files with an mpeg extension. I'd like to think if it encountered a .TiVo it'd know what to do with it, but will it be able to read the metadata and publish that to the TiVo, using the MAK to decrypt...therefore allowing transfers to show up on the TiVo with all the meta information and nest into folders?

Does anyone know how to get this working with a Series3? I can get the TiVo desktop running properly with the video tab and my MacBook shows up in the Now Playing List, but i can't get any videos i drop in the folder to show up on my TiVo. i've used the pre-discussed ffmpegx script to make sure i have my videos transferred to the correct format, but its been a bust :(
anyone have any advice?
Thanks!

TiVoToGo and MRV are not enabled on the Series3 boxes.

Thats what i figured, but it seems strange to me that it would be enabled "enough" for for the coputer icon to show up in the Now Playing List. wouldn't you think that since this step is possible, it would only be logical that you'd be able to play the video in the folder that they've enabled anyway?

I think you have to turn on "sharing" or whatever they call it on your account on the TiVo website. i did this just so that that one mythical day when they switch on MRV, etc, hopefully i'll know pretty instantly.
anyways, getting the computer icon to show up in your Now Playing List to me says that even though not officially "supported", there just has to be a way to get content from your computer to your TiVo. i don't see how this functionality would upset the encrypted/cablelabs/HDMI camp that doesn't want MRV, etc due to copy protection because this wouldn't at all effect the content your TiVo has recorded. somewhere, there has to be a way to do this.

I don't see my PC on my S3's NPL either (and Enable Transfers on TiVo Central shows N/A, which it always has shown).
