I have two Tivos (Series 1 and 2) plus a Panasonic Replay (Showstopper). They all have lifetime. I have also bought multiple Tivos for family members. I could not watch TV without Tivo anymore. When the S2 DT came out this week I was tempted to purchase one and place it in my account to get the $6.95 rate. My indecision, right now, is this. Supposedly Comcast's DVRs will soon have Tivo software on them. Hopefully this year. The Comcast software seems to be the main reason people are very critical of Comcast boxes vs Tivo boxes. So here is my question if Comcast integrates Tivo software, has dual tuner, has HD recording and can be replaced free of charge if defective for its life then why should I buy either a DT or a Series 3?

A DT doesn't do HD, and the series 3 doesn't exsist yet. Neither does the comcast Tivo, so there's really nothing to compare yet.

yeah, if comcast get a hold of tivo software watch out!!! can't wait!!!
Here's one reason not to.....
We have just lifeline service from Comcast. It gets us locals and few others. We do not yet have HD service or an HD capable TV. I would consider an S3, depending on pricing/bundle, even without yet having the hardware to really take advantage of it. But with Comcast, even if I didn't want HD yet, I believe I would have to upgrade my service to be able to rent a DVR. So instead of $10/month plus my TiVO fees, I would be much higher for Comcast service, plus DVR fees from them, plus if they end up charging a premium fee for the TiVO software on their boxes.
