View Full Version : Need Help With My New HR10-250

I just hooked up my new HD Tivo and I'm kind of disappointed. By way of background, I previously used a Philips DSR6000 along with a Hughes HD receiver. I had hoped that the HD Tivo would combine "the best of both worlds". What I've found however are the following annoyances:
1. While switching channels (either through the guide or the channel button on the remote), I experience a delay of 2 to 4 seconds before a picture will appear. I thought this would go away after a few days but it hasn't. Not very good when you want to channel surf.
2. While switching channels, after the image appears, the video will stop for a second and then start (a stutter?). This happens about 50 percent of the time.
3. This is a tough one to describe - while moving between different menus in Tivo Central, the screen/image bounces around when switching screens (makes me dizzy);
4. Little nit pick - I hate the location of the TV Power button on the peanut remote. I already use a universal remote, but have the wife and kids use the peanut.

Am I doing something wrong or do I have a bad Tivo? Any help would be appreciated. I don't know if this makes a difference, but I am using the HDMI output on the HD Tivo. While I'm sure I'll get used to it, I was expecting a little more.

Normal digital TV behavior, try changing channels on your HDTV using it's built in tuner, you'll most likely see the same thing, maybe a little less of a delay because it isn't buffering.

2. While switching channels, after the image appears, the video will stop for a second and then start (a stutter?). This happens about 50 percent of the time.
Since you aren't ever watching "live" through the TiVo, the buffer has to deal with the channel change delay as well, and the "stutter" is it locking on to the new channel, synching up the video and audio.
The quicker the tuner can lock on, the less of the stutter you'll see,
sometimes the tuner is quick so no stutter, othertimes it takes a little longer, stutter.

Unsure on #3, I don't remember noticiing that on mine, or maybe I'm just used to it.

#4- I have 3 TiVo's (see sig) and the TV power button is in a different place on each original peanut remote, glad I got the universal.

Okay - but why haven't I ever experienced the same things with my Series 1 Tivo?
BTW, Phox - thanks for your response.

Series 1 never had to deal with Digital tuning, even if it was recording digital Cable, the cable box was doing the actual tuning, the TiVo was just recording the output of the cable box.

Ok then,
the HR10-250 is just plain slow compared to all previous D*TiVo's.
