Well, my replacement Tivo is going out after about 6 months. It took 2 calls but I have another one on the way. My system has been stuttering every few hours, with unresponsive remote. Sometimes it reboots. This occurs on either live tv or taped shows, so I'm pretty sure either the HD or power supply is going out. I hope the third one lasts, and is a new unit (the first replacement was new.) Since my year warranty goes out in a month or two I decided to add the protection plan to my contract this time. I imagine I will lease the mp4 tivo, so I will cancel the protection plan then. Next time this happens I may just buy a hard drive. I upgraded my old standard Hughes, this one can't be much harder.

Got the new unit hooked up, working well so far, except that the 480i light doesn't work. I can live with it as long as the hard drive is good. Just my luck it was a refurb. On the plus side I'm getting a good collection of remotes.

Why do you need a protection plan? To keep you as a customer D-tv should give you a replacement unit as required or I'd say good bye to D-tv

You'd say bye to D-tv if they didn't give me a new unit every time yours went out and they'd say - see ya.

Since when is it "as required" once the warranty runs out ?
Did I miss that memo ?
