Best episode of the season. I was constantly laughing this episode. The public service announcment was great. Too bad our local election cut part of the screen off for the majority of the show.

The continuity jokes (Dr. Acula and Mickhead) had me especially laughing. And the fact they referenced "Colonel Doctor" was great. Also, "'Daddy drinks a lot'. ('First sentence, great.'")

How many times are we up to on Dr. Cox patting J.D on the back (which might be the only time he actually touches him)?

I actually enjoyed this episode quite a lot, although it would have been interesting to carry the drinking story line out a bit. But I think we're seeing a cool change.

And I don't care what anyone else says. I like the human side of the boss (why can't I think of his name????)

Kelso. And I agree, I'd like to have seen Cox's alcoholism carried out at least another episode, if not more.

I remember when this show as funny. I'm watching now just to see how it ends. At least the janitor is always good for a laugh.

This show is in the top 3 funniest shows on television, week in and week out. It hasn't lost a thing and, btw, the janitor is my least favorite character.

Hate to break it to you, but Scrubs is staying. Even if it goes to ABC it will be on next season. You might want to change your Season Pass if you really think that last episode was not good.
Scrubs is only good when it tries to do more then just be slapstick funny.

The PSA was great...just like his real one that he does.

I was groaning at "wrench knife". I thought that was one of the lamest comedy ideas this show has done. And the whole self-pity thing with Dr. Cox didn't sit right with me either, especially since they fixed it within the 30-minute sitcom time frame, ala The Brady Bunch and just about any other tired show of the past would magically do. Scrubs used to be different and funny. This episode was neither. This was the first time that I really started to see what others are talking about when they say it's time for this show to be put out to pasture.

Having just rewatched the first season this past weekend, this episode was especially poignant in seeing how J.D. has transformed from a naive itern to an experienced colleague of Dr.Cox's. Excellent episode for the development of their characters.

While I liked showing Kelso's human side, it's also fairly out of character. Besides Cox asking Kelso about his kid, Cox and Kelso have consistently hated each other. I'm not saying Kelso shouldn't have a human side but if it was the Kelso of old, he would have suspended Cox for drinking, not talk to him.

Very funny episode.

I think drunk doctoring is a form of jumping the shark.

I'll go back and watch the episodes with Mandy Moore. Those were pretty good, and sentimental without being so horribly sappy.

This thought process always bothered me.

The show has 30 minutes to tell a story. They tell the story in 30 minutes.

You know, like if you were given 30 minutes to tell the story of World War II. It wouldn't be a "neat" conclusion if you ended your story in 30 minutes with the Allies winning, it would be the time you have allotted to tell the story.

What would you have them do, jump into the middle of ER with a scene or two to wrap up the story so it wasn't so neat?

Other than 24 and other gimmick shows, TV and movies (and books) are not done in real time. It will always look "neat" and "magical" when stories get resolved at the end of the show if you don't realize that.

Call me a "senti" but I really liked this ep! This show has a similar feel to Bernie Mac's - a couple of good laughs, a good story and a nice warm feeling - similar to a nice warm brandy on a cold night - NOT Brady Bunch feeling!

BTW - Thanks Jesda for the "GENE PARMESAN!" - Laughed out loud and cried at the same time.

Cox and Kelso don't hate each other any more than the Janitor and JD do. And I don't think that's very much.

I liked this episode. Especially the prison break doctor, more specifically when turk tossed him.

Was this the first time Cox has called J.D. "J.D."?

I don't have any precise moments, but I'm positive it's not. I'm fairly certain he did it after J.D.'s dad died. Thinking about it, I'm guessing it's happened a lot more than we would think.

I liked the ep, although I too thought the wrench - knife was about as lame as it comes. All the actors were very much in character for this one. I don't think Kelso could suspend Cox for drinking, for exactly the reason he mentioned. ;)

Yeah, the Turk tossing the "sensi" doc was great

Not enough Elliot for my taste though, the parachute sequence could have been done under a sprinkler to make it better :D

I thought that it was the first time. It sure sounded odd hearing the words "J.D." coming out of Cox's mouth.

I thought this ep was OK, but I also thought the thing with Cox sitting there mute on the couch was very out of character and didn't seem to fit.

Scrubs is only good when it tries to do more then just be slapstick funny.

I hope that after the move to ABC, they focus more on the quirky humor that made the show great. A little laughter, a little sadness, all for a nicely balanced and charming show. Lately though, there's been way more sentiment than humor.

Season 5 was weak to begin with, thanks to having almost a year off. Sarah Chalke's character was extra-annoying (in an unfunny way) and JD and Turk lost a little chemistry. Cox and Kelso were spot-on, at least. Things improved by the middle of the season but the humor was missing again. Decent writing, yes, but not the comedy I expect.
[For example: when "Friends" went from cheeky sexual humor to a drama about Ross and Rachel.]
I always enjoy Zach Braff, so I keep watching.

As others have said, a bad episode of Scrubs is still better than most of the drivel on TV, but Scrubs has been so much better.

It's looking a little more likely that it'll stay on NBC.

Season 5 was weak to begin with, thanks to having almost a year off.

As far as I know, they were on the same production schedule as they'd been in previous years, so the writers/producers/actors had only a couple months off, as usual. It's just that NBC didn't start showing the produced episodes until January -- that's why they were showing two episodes back-to-back for a while, because they had a backlog of episodes "on the shelf."

Jesda, may I suggest if you are SO adamantly against this season that you buy season 1 and watch that instead? You always say the same thing in the Scrubs threads. We get it. You think this season isn't as good.

And maybe when it stops sucking, I'll say otherwise.

I'm watching to see how it ends now, going through the motions until its gone.

The show is still very funny... I also thought the wrench-knife thing was funny, especially when he stuck it in his pocket.

Looking forward to seeing it again next year.

Got to say Jesda, I wish you were ever as entertaining or funny as you wish Scrubs was.. All you do is post in scrubs threads saying the same thing like a broken record.

This has been encouraged before and can be again. if your sole purpose of visiting a television show thread is to bash it then feel free to go start your own hater thread. Quite honestly people here want to talk about Scrubs are fans of the show. If you want to bash the show, do it in another thread.

I am sure you would not appreicate it if I followed you around to every show you liked that I did not and just flamed the show and talked about how much it sucked. This same issue came up in the past when someone would not stop flaming the amazing race. It is not good discourse given the topic.

This is not a political forum where people are discussing pros and cons. People should not be watching entertainment they do not enjoy. It marks them as someone with some pretty sizable issues. So if you can't work it out on your own, don't take it on the rest of us. It is not reasonable, and your are not entitled.

I'm sure you've developed an emotional attachment to the program. Thats nice and all, but its a critique of the show, not you. These are twenty-minute programs on TV, not your children.

You dont have the privelige of hearing "WOW GREAT SHOW" without counterpoints. Sucks for you.

Just because someone "bashes" Scrubs on here does not mean that they aren't a fan- if your football team starts playing badly and you "bash" them for it, does that mean that you aren't a fan? Even true fans can have a negative opinion about something they love/used to love. What's the point of doing this "threading" otherwise? It's all about giving an opinion, positive or negative, so why complain if someone wants to tell you that they're disappointed?
