I bought a series 2 Dual tuner and I haven't recevied it yet but I bought a lifetime gift subscription card at bestbuy today and I called tivo for something and asked them about it and the customer rep sayed I can't use it for Tivo dual tuner and I can only use it for the regular Series 2. Is this True? I thought you could use it within 2 years after the purchase date. The guy on the phone also sayed he would not honor it for series 2 DT. So I am hoping I don't get him on the phone next time.

Did you search in TiVoPony's "DT & Ethernet for you..."(think that's what the name of it is) thread and search for "Lifetime Service" to see if it's mentioned?

He was wrong! The official FAQ posted by TiVoOpsMgr here (http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?t=290723) says...
Q. What about unredeemed Product Lifetime gift subscriptions? Will those still be honored after Wednesday 3/15?
A. Yes. We will honor your unredeemed Product Lifetime gift subscription. When you go to redeem your Product Lifetime gift subscription, it can be used on future hardware platforms such as the Series3.

As with anything that involves CSRs contradicting official policy, if you have trouble activating the DT with the gift card, drop TiVoOpsMgr an email and he should be able to straighten it out.
I assume you bought it from a store, because if you bought it from Tivo, it comes pre-activated. This is what the CSR might be referring to.

Just hang up and call back. Hopefully you will get a CSR that knows what the %#$^ is going on.

Tell him that Stephen Mack, director of operations at TiVo, Inc. is the one who posted the information. If he still refuses ask to speak to his supervisor.

Yes I bought it at circuitcity.com. I should be getting it within 2 days.

You found one of those at Best Buy still? Umm care to PM me and tell me where? You should go buy the rest out and sell them on E-Bay, maybe even keep one just incase you want to use one on the S3.

Congrats on finding a lifetime card at a Best Buy this late in the game. If I were you, I'd go back and buy every other card they have. :)
As others have pointed out, your CSR was misinformed. I think there's even an official bulletin for the CSRs that explains this, but I don't remember what thread it was in.
If you have trouble, ask for a case number to be opened. The issue will get taken care of by someone other than the CSR. Don't mention tivocommunity.com - that's just confuse things ...

I'm curious.. did you get this resolved? What happened?
I have 4 of these cards, myself, and if they won't accept them for newer models, I need to unload them pronto!
Update: nevermind, I'll wait for you to receive the box and actually try. I just realized you ordered it from circuitcity.com and probably haven't received it yet..

Well I bought 2 of them. They had about 4 or 5 on May 1st then I went May 2nd to get one more and they only had 2 left and when I left they only had one left. I bet someone already bought it though. I only had money for 2 of them.

Too bad because they're selling on eBay for $500-$600. You could have made a nice profit on them.

Well again congrats on finding the lifetime card. I am jealous. I would probably end my boycott of BB for one hour to go pick up a few to resell on ebay use on a S2 DT and/or S3. Heck I was willing to do it to flip buy the XBox 360. They would have had the same profit enjoyment for me
Side bar: can we do stirke through on this board? If so how?

I have one on sale so I can get the other card I bought for free. There's not alot of people selling the lifetime subscription cards right now so hopefully it goes to 700.00.

I wouldn't count on it. The highest I've seen one go for is $630 and that was because the seller offered the customer the original reciept.
There seems to be one guy on there, 1goldenchild0, who is buying as many as he can. Along with several TiVos with lifetime already on them. I'm not sure what the heck he's planning on doing with them, but I think he's already won about 5 so I doubt they're for personal use. I'm thinking he may be buying them up now at $500-$600 because he thinks he can flip them for even bigger profit when the S3 units come out. Either that or it's a TiVo employee hired to get as many off the street as possible. ;)
Dan
I'm not sure if 1goldenchild0 knows what he/she is doing. That person bought a TiVo "upgrade CD" for $7.

Something I've heard almost every day from my wife for the last six weeks after I told her I left 4 on the shelf. Sigh.

His PayPal payment came through when he bought one of my cards, so it's not like he's some random wacko making fake bids.
Dan
I'm not doubting that he actually paid for all of the winning bids (thousands of dollars). The fact that he bought an upgrade CD seems to indicate that he does not know much about TiVo. BTW, right now he's selling 3 new lifetime units.

Stalking this buyer I did not see the upgrade CD, but I just went by feedback so that could be why.
Very interesting to see howmany TiVos they have bought. Something is up but I don't know what.
He did buy 4 lifetime cards and then 4 TiVos, but the kicker is 3 of those TiVos came with lifetime. Sidenote: One said you could choose lifetime or 1 yr service to come with the unit, who in their right mind would choose 1 yr service?
The unit without lifetime made no sense to me as it was an 80 hr unit and he bought it for about $119, I guess he may package one of the lifetime cards with the unit and resell it or maybe he is using that TiVo and the upgrade CD to up it and resell with lifetime.
The three 40 hrs w/ lifetime he bought he is now selling for Buy It Now at $545 plus $29.95 shipping. He bought those three, includeing shipping, for $450, $454.95, $444.99 so if and when all three sell he will make $374.91 that is a lot to put into hopping you can flip them, these are not the XBox 360s on the first or even second release date.
I am guessing the cards he may keep one for himself as it will be partially paid off if all his other auctions go through but I go with the theory, not mine, that he is waiting for the S3 to come out and going to flip those as well. He did pay a buttload for the cards though, 560 + 7 ship, 610 + 10 ship, 611 + 10 ship, 570 + 10 ship. I don't see how he can get that much profit from them.
Also he bought 1 lifetime TiVo before the lifetime was gone and 3 cards before lifetime was gone. Yes, cards I understand as there are very few, if any out there now, but the unit he could of bought his own, gotten lifetime and the rebate for cheaper, especially since it was a 40 hr, but most of the public didn't know you had till the 16th, most thought it ended in March.
Still though very interesting...

Ahh yes you use the (strikethrough) (s) (/s) with () = [] tags
Now to edit my previous post
if and when all three sell he will make $374.91
Subtract the shipping costs and about 7% for eBay and PayPal fees.
Dan203

Ebay and PayPal fees for a $545 sale is about $40, so he'll be lucky to make $50 each on those.
Dan
After the introduction of DT units, the prices of lifetime ST units seem to have dropped by $50-$100 on eBay. Let's see if 1goldenchild0 can actually make any money.

I got lifetime on my DT unit with the subscription card.
What a waste! Using a lifetime card on a DT unit, why? They should only be used for S3s at this point

Maybe:
He wanted to put lifetime on a DT box in a more ethical manner than some people.
He has no interest in or need for the Series 3, which will clearly be more expensive.

Why would you say that? If all you have is analog cable, it's a perfect use of a lifetime card.

Well I dont have HDTV nor do I plan on getting it (maybe I will later who knows but for now I'm not) but I'm saving my lifetime sub card for a S3 unit simply because theres a feature the new DT's dont have that the S3's will... the new DT's CANNOT tune digital channels without a cable box... and from what I have been reading the S3's can... thats just on e of the main reasons im savin my lifetime sub for an S3 unit.

Help me understand. Why would someone pay $700 for a lifetime card when service is only $12.95 a month? Thats 4 1/2 years of service. Alot could change in that time. I think for $300 its a screaming deal but I doubt I'd even pay $500

To some its worth it... it all depends on wether or not how long you plan on having your TiVo etc... me if I were to buy a lifetime on eBay I wouldnt go over $600... but hey thats just me...

I got mine for 447 on e-bay last month . After doing the math of what a 6.95 subscription would cost me (I do have a lifetime series 2 unit already I am keeping), I just wish I had done the math BEFORE I bought the darn thing.
If you want to see insanity, one person has listed 3 cards at $770, $870, and $970. Many of us know who she is from a previous thread.

Resale value! TiVos with lifetime are selling for $300-$400 more then the same exact TiVos without lifetime. And with units like the S3, where lifetime will be very rare, that will probably go up even more. Which makes lifetime service more of an investment then an expense.
