View Full Version : Why would S2 ask me if I have 16:9 vs 4:3 ???

So I'm bopping around the setup stuff on my new S2 and I run into a video setup setting that asks if I have 16:9 or 4:3. I also note that many shows in letterbox are tagged as such in the lineup. I was hoping that the setting would allow the Tivo to automatically stretch letterbox shows to 16:9 if tagged!

Doesn't do it though.

Now I'm wondering what that setting might be for? There is nothing in the manual.

Any thoughts???

Is this a DTV unit? If so, all of thier boxes - Tivo or not - have had a 16:9 vs 4:3 setting. I've never seen it do anything, but it's there and does nada. Just like the "Window" button on the remote :)

It effects downloaded content. If you download a 16:9 video to your TiVo via the TivoToComeBack feature this setting will tell the TiVo whether to display it full screen for display on a 16:9 TV or letterboxed for display on a 4:3 TV.

Thanks! Perhaps a suggestion to display letterboxed content appropriately depending on this setting would be worth submitting. I currently have to manually set the stretch setting on my TV while watching prime time letterboxed shows but then the progress bar on the bottom of the Tivo screen is mostly cut off on the bottom.

p.s. my wife gets pretty torqued up when I forget to set the stretch mode back because she can't figure out how to do it :)
