Gang -

I noticed that my daily dial-in to TiVo has been failing for about a week now. When I just used a regular phone to test the # I got a "ALL CIRCUITS ARE BUSY - 085P" recorded message.

So I tried a bunch (about 10) other numbers in my state (Massachusetts). They all gave me the same message with the exception of one. There are only 3 numbers in my local area that I can call toll free and they all give this same message.

I called TiVo and they gave me a couple of things to try (like removing the "1" from the beginning of the phone #) but nothing worked. The phone company said that it was "not one of their numbers" so I didn't get much help there.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Bob

On a related note, I noticed last night that my 2 SA's have been failing on the call since 4/25. I have them both on the Newburyport number. Long story short, after worrying that my modems had died, I think there is a problem with many of the 978 numbers in my area. I tried a Boston number and it worked fine. I tried the Acton 978 number (out of my immediate region), and that worked fine. My attempts at the Newburyport, Rowley, and Topsfield numbers all failed. Thank god I tried other regional numbers as I was worried that both of my modems had died, which would have shocked me since I have my phone line through my APC UPS.

Pony/Jerry/et al......Any chance you can find out if numbers have been dropped/changed and get the lists updated when one calls the toll free number to update the available numbers.....Thanks!

I talked to both TiVo and the phone company (Verizon) several times and am feeling a lot like a ping pong ball. Each points at the other.

BUT I finally ended up with a TiVo supervisor who was pretty good and she said that they were aware of the problem and hoped to have it fixed in a "couple of days".

I reminded her that most people in Mass. are not aware that they even have a problem unless they notice a message at the bottom of the "Programs to Record" screen or happen to be sniffing around in the "last successful connection" area. But when all their program info is gone on May 8th then TiVo will be getting about 10,000 phone calls.

I've found one # that works but since it's a toll call I want them to get the local #'s running again.

We've found that one of our local POP providers is experiencing an outage. While we have some numbers owned by another provider that remain unaffected, there may be gaps in coverage until this is fixed.

The call that obtains this list of numbers goes directly to TiVo and will succeed, but the test connection that follows goes directly to the local number selected. If your local number is not allowing connections, please try other local numbers, if available, for the time being. If you need assistance, please contact our customer support department and they will try to help you find an alternative local number if one is available.

If you have the option to switch over to using a network connection, now might be a good time to do so.

Using a number outside of your area may allow you to connect, but please check with your calling plan to see if any additional charges apply as those will be your responsibility.

We are working with the provider to resolve this as quickly as possible, but there are numerous factors that are outside of our control. I will post more details as they become available, but I cannot provide any ETA at this time.

Thank you for your patience.

Tonight (Tuesday) about 9 PM my TiVo successfully connected for the first time in over a week. This is great news. I hope all these problems are behind us.

I manually (via phone) dialed a couple of the other #'s and only got the "ALL CIRCUITS BUSY" message one time and perhaps that was valid.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks Jerry.

I've set my SAs back to the Newburyport number.

Great work looking into this!
