Well, there is a lot of info in the thread "Hacking your series 2 DTIVO just got a whole lot easier". It really depends on the hacks you want to do. You will find links to web pages in the sig section of posts on this forum. Check the posts of RBAUTCH and GUNNYMAN.

I have hacked my DTIVO's with the zipper and I love it! Can't really think of any cons.

Here is my problem. I installed new hard drives into this unit and then I went to activate it and DTV says that the RID number has been activated before and therefore I can not use it. Instead of returning it hunting for another one on EBAY I was wondering if there is a way to just remove the RID number from it. I came across a site a while ago and now I can not find it.

Any help would be appreciated.

None that I am aware of, and this sort of hacking isn't allowed here anyway. However, I have never heard of DirecTV refusing to activate a unit because it's been activated before -- in fact, I've activated multiple used SD-DVR40s. So I'm guessing you're up to something else.
