I just got an HD TV this last winter, and I love it. I also am a long time user of TIVO series 2. However it does not do HDTV. I have been looking at the HR10-250 as an option, but I have a few questions that I hope someone may be able to answer.
1) Can you just use the HR10-250 with an OTA, or does it need to be connected to DirectTV to work? I'm really only interested in the HD content, and most of the that seems to be OTA anyways.
2) If I need to subscribe to DirectTv, can I only subscribe to the HD package, plus the Tivo fee?
It's not that I don't want to get DirectTv, but what I am really interested in is the HD Tivo so that I can record my shows from my OTA. I'm not really interested in the rest of the DirectTV programming.
Thanks is advance for your help

1) No, you have to be subscribed to DirecTv
2) No, you have to subscribe to a minimum package

If you can hold out for awhile, the Series 3 TiVo will be able to do HD OTA, without the need for DirecTV. Do a search on "Series 3," and you will get more information than you can imagine!

Pretty much stuck with DirecTV for the HR10-250 to function at all.
It gets the guide from DirecTV, from the satellite, not phone like an SA TiVo.
You have to subscribe to a mininum DirecTV package and pay the 5.99 DVR fee as well,
if DirecTV doesn't send the authorization signal activating the DVR functions, you won't be able to record anything (other than the live buffer).
If you can wait a while, get the TiVo Series 3 due sometime this year.

I must be say I have been on D* or E* for 5 years now and this Series 3 makes think about using one of these and going back to cable.
