It seems like everytime i go to watch something on HBO HD the audio gets way off from the picture....it gets so bad it's unwatchable...this weekend it was horrible. I rebooted the TIVO...even hooked up regular audio cables (i currently use optical for 5.1) and nothing fixed it...i think the problme isn't on my end... From time to time i notice it on Discovery HD too..especially during American Choppers....anyone else noticing this...it's really annoying. It's becoming more consistent too. My friend has hd through cable and notices the same thing too from time to time....is it a problem from the actual networks?

How much is the delay? There is often a "lip sync" issue when using HDMI as there is a lot of video processing going on that can delay the signal for 50-80ms or so. Some A/V receivers (mine, for example), offer an adjustable audio delay to resolve this.

If you look closely at that thread you will see that i started that thread on the other board first. :) Then was directed to bring it to the hd board. It's funny that in my thread over here someone would link my old thread. Too funny.

I'm having this issue on a new Samsung DLP... but it's inconsistent, some channels/shows are very bad, some are fine, sometimes it seems to change from minute to minute in the same show. How do you account for that with a delay on your receiver - do you constantly adjust the delay on the fly? That seems pretty annoying!

I've gotten the audio delay while using my component hook-up. Recently, I picked up the Westinghouse 37 inch LCD and use the DVI...and I still get the audio delay.

I've also noticed that it can get really bad for one segment and then the following segment (after commercials) is better.

Just my two cents...

As I answered in the other thread, I noticed it about halfway through The Sopranos, but it cleared right up and was fine for the rest of the show.

Watched Big Love last night and it was fine for the whole show.

Must be an intermittent problem at HBO, or D* is messing it up somehow.

I notice it big time on "Meet the Fockers", Sopranos seems to be just a teeny-tiny bit behind but it's really not that noticeable unless you're watching their lips very closely. MTF at one point looked like a badly dubbed foreign movie.

I was just going to say the same thing...every time meet the fockers is on it's all whack. Wonder if it's a problem with the individual encoding of shows.

Check out this device: http://lipfix.com/lip_sync_error_.html

Less expensive than a new receiver with audio delay, and allows for easy on-the-fly adjustment.

I don't adjust delay on the fly. I have seen that some channels are worse than others, but it hasn't been enough of a bother for me yet. Currently I have my receiver set at 40ms delay which seems to be about right for most sources.

Well, my wife is watching a movie recorded from HBO HD right now, and she reports that the audio and video are seriously out of sync - sometimes. The delay varies. So it does seem to be a HBO HD issue.
