*Sigh*
I have 5 days to decide.(I have five days left under the 30 days change to another box thing) Do I move the lifetime from my Humax to a new DT machine? Anybody have any takes on this?
I could move the Lifetime to the DT box. Keep Humax at 6.96 monthly. Sell off my other 40 hour lifetime box.
sheesh, anybody else have these issues!

of course move it to the DualTuner. You could always ebay that puppy for a large sum of money and then get the Humax later if you wanted to.

If you transfer the Lifetime from the Humax to the DT do you still qualify for the DT 150.00 rebate?
If you transfer the Lifetime from the Humax to the DT do you still qualify for the DT 150.00 rebate?
No. Rebate requires you to activate new service. Transfer doesn't count.
In the OP case, he would qualify for the rebate on the Humax, but not on the DT.
Think about it - you'd end up with one lifetime box in service. Does it make sense that it would essentially be eligible for TWO rebates?

I didn't realize he qualified for a rebate on the Humax.
So what your saying is all you have to do is activate the Humax to qualify for the rebate. Even if it's only a day before you transfer the activation to another box, you still collect the rebate on the Humax?
If so, I may just go out and buy a Humax and do that while I still can.

I'm not so sure about this. I mean TiVo must have some way of facilitating transfers, while retaining rebate status, for people who's TiVos legitimately break within the first 30 days. I can't see them telling people "Sorry, since your TiVo broke in the first 30 days and the service on the new unit was transfered and not activated you no longer qualify for the rebate".

Well, one of the ebay sales does say transfer invalidates rebates.

That's an ownership transfer, not just changing the service number. I did that with my first tivo ever .. bought it, exchanged it at the store, changed the service number via the web site, and submitted the rebate for the new box, and it went through fine.

TiVo said that you can only Xfer lifetime from a Humax to Humax not to a S2 DT. This appairent loophole does not exist (if it did I could buy a never activated Humax on E-Bay then Xfer to the S2 DT. For the rebate to be good on your S2 DT it just has to be activated for more than 30 days. Back when you could I went from a new monthly service on a new TiVo to lifetime on that TiVo and got my rebate OK.

Actually this loophole does exist until 5/16, which is exactly 30 days after TiVo officially stopped selling lifetime on regular Series 2 units. After that you'll only be able to get lifetime on Humax units and you'll be restricted to Humax to Humax transfers.

Well, I did it. Tivo transfered lifetime to my new DT box.
Going to keep the Humax for 6.95. Didn't really care about the reabate issues. If it works, great - if not oh well. Will be selling my other lifetime box on ebay. SigOther did not like the idea of two tivo's sitting side by side - so DT is perfect for me.
Guess I am their target market. No cable box, no plans on getting one....
Still haven't even installed the thing - no time
