If I want to connect 8-10 tivos to my broadbannd connection and have them stream audio from shoutcast all at the same time, can a single broadband connection support this?

This depends on how good your Broadband connection is and what bitrate the streams are encoded.

None of this is multicast traffic so there's no economy to the number of threads you open. Each represents a full stream @ the encoded bitrate.

Meaning in Multicast if you have 10 streams of the same content they all share one pipe until they can no longer (for reasons of hardare limitations or physical path differences). There can be a 1:many relationship with the source.

In Unicast (conventional streaming), you have a unique relationship 1:1 with the source even if it's exactly the same content.

My guess is things will start slowing down once you get to about 4-5 streams and then none of them will work as you begin to add more.

:) good luck!

Even at a maximum bitrate of 356Kbps 10 streams would only require 3.56Mbps. A typical 10/100 network should have a sustained throughput of about 40Mbps. Which means you shouldn't have any problems at all. However the resources of your PC may get strained depending on how Shoutcast is designed. (I've never actually used it)
