i'm not going to be a jerk and post the link to the ebay auction here
if someone buys it, how would i go about transferring ownership to them? does that person just have to call up tivo and talk they're way through it?
also, my other tivo is on the multi box discount plan, what happens when i sell my lifetimed box?

I sure know the answer to this one. After you get your money E-Mail the buyer the TSN number of your box, he calls TiVo talks to a CS person and they will transfer the TiVo into his account in less then 60 seconds. If that leaves you with only one TiVo you will not get the MSD anymore

so i will be paying $12.95 a month then?
it would be funny if the person never transferred ownership and i still got the discount

Could happen if you were selling a S1 as their no advantage for the buyer to Xfer to his name if that the only TiVo he has, but with a S2 if he doesn't Xfer he can't use MRV or on line scheduling or the TiVo desktop.
Yes you will pay $12.95/month after they Xfer (if they do)

Do I understand this correctly? If I get someone's TiVo serice number, I can transfer the unit to me without their okay? I would expect that the current owner would need to approve the transfer... Is this really not the case?

thats why you block out the number when you post a picture on ebay...although last night i found a couple of lifetimed units that didn't block it out.

I am surprised TiVo does not have a security feature to prevent this. It is very simple to do also. All the rep has to do is send a confirmation code to the TiVo and then person transfering the lifetime in would have to repeat to CSR. Granted transfering the tivo into your account doesn't help you much, besides being able to "force" the person who actually has the TiVo to watch certain shows by using the online scheduling, lol

well, if you illegally transferred it, you could get a multi box discount if you had another monthly subbed tivo

But per the TOS to get MSD you need to have the coming from the same address. If one tivo was phone and one was networked there would be no way to tell if this was the case, but if they are both networked can't they tell if it is the same address or not by the IP address or subnet? I doubt TiVo checks that hardcore, but it could be possible. And for phone line, that is simple, caller ID, both calling from same number or at least same exhange.

If you had the TSN number you could do this illegal act but why, for MSD ? If you could get a key to their home you could rob them also. I assume that taking a unit from someone and putting in you name to save $5/ month when you could face a criminal charge can't be worth it. If it happened a lot TiVo would do something about it.

I sold my series2 with lifetime about a month ago. I never called TiVo about it. When the person gets it and goes thru guided setup it will say -ACCOUNT STATUS - LIFETIME SERVICE.
