View Full Version : Constant Reboot of HD TiVo

Things have been good for a long time and now suddenly my HDR10-250 likes to reboot constantly. Yesterday I taped 8 hours HD-espn for draft coverage. I Ffwd through most of it and delete it to get about 25% my capacity back.

The unit must have reboot once Sunday morning as we noticed the 30 second skip and alpha sort no longer worked. I reprogram these for my family and it seems to reboot 3 times recording a show at 7pm. I tried to get into the menu at 8pm to see what was wrong, and browsing the system settings (software version 3.1.5f-01-2-357) seem to crash the unit. As far as I could see before reboot it had made the system call Friday, won't call again until Tuesday and download service data OK.

We had some bad weather today where the clouds lost signal at 1pm but no lightning. The system did not reboot at that time. I watched local OTA during the storm.

From what I read many have suffered this when the Hard Drive was bad. I had unplug the unit and watched a DVD this evening. Then after a break restart it and it seemed OK. But only watching 1 hour of a recorded show and it keeps rebooting again.

Is there any chance deleting 25% of the show space caused a file system issue? And can TiVo fix that if I just let it run? The system box seems quiet; the ususal Hard Drive noise, but no clicking or clear disk issue. No major noise and no clear quiet. Seems like I can buy a replacement drive cheaper than a replacement HDR10-250 if I am not a new customer. Any chance this is a satellite box issue or something unfixable?

Something funny: the initial "Welcome, please wait..." used to come on in HDTV 720p and the system would have to boot before displaying on my SD TV. This reboot loop is displaying every step in 480i. I only use HDTV on special occassions and tend to use SD for daily shows and SD content. Any connection here?

Thanks for any advice,
Phil

I had this sam problem. After two years of flawless performance I started having spontaneous re-boots with my HR10 250. This would happen 2-3 times a week. The speed of the system had also degraded. After reading numerous posts here I decided to start with the selection "Clear Program Data and To Do List".

This worked great. It was like getting a new box. The system has not re-botted once in the last three weeks. Also, everything happens much faster. Overall response in all areas is significantly improved.

Re-entering the Season Passes and Favorites was a bit of a pain but I had recorded these screens on my DVD rcorder so it was easy.

Try this first if you are having this problem.

ditto.
Solved my reboot problem as well. At least for the last couple of weeks.

Thanks! Its bad to loose my season passes and thumbs, but I may be even more sad at loosing all the shows I was keeping. I'll assume its not possible to cleanse the OS portion and keep the shows? Becasue its mostly HD, I can't move it off the HD.

I had the same problem with mine, and have chosen the option to erase everything and reset system. Now I get the Message "Clearing and Deleting Everything. This will take one hour" Problem is, I have had this screen for about 6 hours now.

Ditto on the Clear & Delete. It's been a couple months, now -- no problemos. Of course, the critter is slowly meandering back to the usual sloooww response. I think I'll make the C&D solution sort of a semi-annual ritual.

Of course, who knows? Maybe the new HD DVR will have less of a problem with this?

C&D can take up to 48hrs. Usually if hard drive is OK, 12-20 hrs gets the job done.

For maintenance operations like these it is best to start them when you go to bed.

Just so you know that "Clear Program Data and To Do List" is different from "Clear and Delete Everything."

One will take a heckuva lot longer than the other....

Throw me on the list, but I haven't taken the time to fix it with the "clear" solution yet. I've just unplugged the beastie for a few minutes, and then it's fine for a couple days.

My real question is though... is this a recent development for the HD TiVos? Mine just started doing this, and it seems a lot of others have recently had this happen too. Could it be a bad update?
