I currently have a TiVo with Lifetime Service. If I were to buy the new dual-tuner box and activate it under the MSD $6.95 a month plan, does the first box necessarily have to be stay connected and running?
I don't have a need for two boxes, but $6.95 a month is cheaper than any of the other service plans. As long as I keep the Lifetime box and don't give it to anyone else?

you have to let the box connect every 6 months to maintain your MSD.
You could always give the lifetime box to a family member who you know won't change the account its under.

Why not move it to a bedroom or some other place that has a TV? Also you could network the TiVos and have MRV which could be a plus.
If you want I will take the box and I will pay for shipping as well :)

I can do that? I thought all the TiVos had to be the same address. Below is from the TiVo website:
"B. Same TiVo Service Address. All TiVo DVRs eligible for the MULTI-SERVICE DISCOUNT must be located and calling in from the same TiVo service (or TiVo Plus service) address as the Qualifying Subscription"

I don't understand. Why wouldn't you want to use the lifetime box?
You've paid good $ for lifetime, so take advantage of it!

Move the unit with a lifetime service to another room in the house.

Or leave it in the same room and have access to all 3 tuners on the same TV - the TiVo remotes are capable of controlling several (8 I think?) TiVo's independently, so you won't have any issues with that.

Yes, technically you could control 9 tivos with a single remote. However, if you want to control more than 2 Tivos with a single remote, you'd have to reprogram the remote each time you wanted to use a different Tivo.

That is against TiVo rules for MSD, both TiVos have to at the same address.
