I have a Tivo Series 2 box with a hard drive that is going bad. I've ordered a replacement drive, so I'm trying to transfer my programs to my PC. All of the programs are recorded at medium quality. I have a wireless network (Tivo's branded wireless card, plus a month-old Linksys SRX400 wireless router).
In the past, transferring shows from the Tivo to my PC was taking about half of the length of the show (e.g. a 1-hour show would transfer in 30 minutes). The first couple of shows I transferred this morning went at about that rate.
Then suddenly the transfer speed dropped, such that now it is taking 3-4 times the length of the show (e.g. a 1-hour show transfers in 3-4 hours).
My PC says it has a good wireless connection (100 Mbps) and Tivo says it has an excellent wireless connection (75% signal strength). The Windows Task Manager says that I'm using about 5% of CPU and less than 1% of network capacity.
Any ideas as to what might have caused this sudden slowdown -- or how to fix it? I've rebooted the PC and the router, with no effect. I've also disconnected and reconnected the Tivo's wireless adapter. I'm reluctant to reboot the Tivo box because the bad hard drive makes it uncertain as to whether it will successfully reboot. (The box rebooted itself yesterday, for no known reason, and didn't successfully come back up again for several hours.)
Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated!
