Tivo Upgrade Newb

I currently have a Tivo Model TCD540040 that I would like to add a second drive to. I don't care if I lose any of my recordings and have a pretty good understanding of computers so I won't mind opening the hatch on the Tivo. I've seen so many different suggestions/guides on the net I have gotten a bit overwhelmed though. So, can anyone point me to the best/easiest to follow instructions for adding a drive to my Tivo? I don't mind buying some extra software too, if that will speed things along.

In additition, there were no instructions to unmount the drive after copying the image to it. The standard Hindsdale instructions were much easier for me to follow.

Both are good, pick one and read through it a couple of times.

The hinsdale-how-to is missing the -r 4 option needed when the new tivo drive(s) are larger then 250G. And yes I would prefer that weaKnees used the unmount or reboot command instead of doing a CTRL-ALT-DELETE altho with Linux the CAD is supposed to do a graceful shutdown including un-mounting all drives.
