A month ago I got a new (540) S2 from Weaknees and am finally getting around to upgrading it. I have done this twice before with a 140 and 240. These went well have not had any problems (well apart from my 140 finally kicking it...) but much to my embarrassment I can't even get the case off the new box. It slides back about 1/8 inch and stops with a loud chink (metal on metal) sound. I can't seem to move it back or up. Does anyone know how to get this thing off? I don't want to force it as I have had bad experiences doing that in the past and breaking stuff. Has TiVo modified the case to make it more difficult to get the top off? I tried to find something on the forum about this but didn't see anything...

Help! 40G is just not enough! I also have a 300G Maxtor itching to get in there!

Exact same design as earlier series twos. If the unit has been opened before and not been put back together correctly the tabs on the inside of top can become bent causing a hang up when reopening. Just use a fair sized flat bladed screwdriver under the back lip and pry up carefully. It will come off and you can straighten any bent tabs to prevent a reoccurance.

The slots screw driver helped. It seems that there is something close to the face of the unit which blocks the case from sliding forward. There are little slots there that you can slide a flat head screw driver into to get the case past the "blockage" and it will slide right off.

Hold the bottom of each side and spread slightly as you slide & lift it off.
