Hey,
I've got a Humax 40 hour w/ burner. I also have a few hard drives sitting around with no use.
Can I use these hard drives that I previously used in my computer, after formatting in the tivo or not? Some people say yes, others no. I don't know who to believe.
Anyone know know how big the HD on the DRT 400 is?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

40 hour = 40GB hard drive
its a standard IDE hard drive, so... you can use them. you'll have to set it up with the mfstools and whatnot on a computer first

So I can just format it with these tools and it won't be a problem.
Many guides says specifically you cannot use a drive that has been used in Windows.
I just don't want to screw up the drive or tivo, so I want to make sure since I have been using the drives as back up space in my home computer.
Thanks for the info!

The windows problem is only after linux programming before you stick it back in TiVo. Every time you run mfstools it wipes the disk and reformats it for tivo so its history is unimportant.

That's not actually what they say. A TiVo drive that has been booted into Windows XP will become unbootable in a Tivo as is. It can always be reimaged with the Tivo software or using the 'make tvo bootable' tool will fix the problem w/o having to start from scratch.
