Got a ready to go SD-DVR40 (HMO, TWP, etc.). I have upgraded the HD to a 250 and all is good.

I moved this in to where my HDVR2 was. I now want to move my R10 out and put in my HDVR2 there. However I want to use the 40GB from the SD-DVR40 as the basis for the HDVR2.

Are the two units compatible enough to just use the same image? PTV sells images but they make you believe that they have different images for each unit.

Will this work?

Thanks!

they make you believe that they have different images for each unit.

There is no "make believe" to it; there are differences in the images. It *may* work, but you may see your TiVo try to download the correct 6.2 version on its own after you do so. Don't expect help from tech support if you go this route.

My advice? Spend the extra $20 and get the correct image.

From Lou Jacob ("tivoupgrade"):

Take a look at the model numbers on the back (or in the system information screen); you'll see that the first three digits are different, and that is the key. One is a 321 and the other is a 351. More information in the release notes for InstantCake.

However I want to use the 40GB from the SD-DVR40 as the basis for the HDVR2.

FYI, the destination disk for InstantCake must be larger than the one that was originally in the TiVo, usually 40GB. In other words, you'll need to use one that's larger than 40GB for it to work.

6.2 is technically universal, if it is hacked to not call out.
