I purchased InstantCake and was pretty upset when I found out that it was for a 5.x version which doesn't support my wireless TiVo adapter I bought from them. What version of the TiVo software does Weaknees put on? I kind of feel gipped by paying $20 for an outdated piece of software (outdated by over 2 versions). I had to remove my TiVo and digital cable box and put it on another TV in another room with the phone line just to get it up and running..I'm kinda mad..TIA

What model Tivo do you have? I see the 240s have a 7.1b image available.

My 540 image I bought awhile ago was also 5.x something. Strange the dropdown menu you order from doesn't mention the version for the 540s.

I asked Lou of InstantCake why they don't just sell the latest images (or at least 7.2.0 w/ broadband support), here was his response...

Not sure what model TiVo you have, but we're shipping 7.2.1 for most Series 2 standalones and DVD units. Considering the ethernet problems with 7.2.2 we'll probably sit out that version and wait for the next update before refreshing our images.

Our general policy is to ship the latest stable version for each model, unless an older version is specifically requested (as is sometimes the case with the HR10-250 so that people can get their channel logos).

I have the TiVo series 2 540080...Hrmm I'm guessing I just wasted $20 on an outdate InstantCake image :( If I ever need to use one in the future I'm going with yours. Thanks.

You just get your TiVo a few days ago so I know that this must be for an upgrade (vs needing to replace a bad HD). You already had a good working 7.2.2 image, so why not just use the existing hard drive and the free LBA48 aware mfstools download from ptvupgrade to upgrade to a larger hard drive?

I didn't realize I could do that :/ I have learned my lesson the hard way but I'm happy now. After hours of waiting for the phone line to update the TiVo software and channel guide I now have the latest version and over 100 hours of Best Quality picture recording :)

You guys don't actually sell just an image on CD do you? Or do you?

Nope - we don't. We sell drives with images on them, or we have a service where we format your drive.

PTVupgrade does.

PTVupgrade does.

Yes, but nobody seems to sell a CD based image that supports broadband setup (7.2.0 or greater) for a 540.
