View Full Version : Tivo stuck in Guided Setup

A couple of days ago I noticed that my brand new Tivo S2 540 stopped recording and scrambled live TV. I rebooted it several times (in addition to Tivo rebooting itself) but it didn't help. When I tried to manually record, I got Error 86 message. I read somewhere that I should redo the Guided Setup, before I do the "clear and delete" as a last resort. In the middle of guided setup, when the Tivo tries to make a connection with Tivo service for the second time (the 20-30min one) and it just sat there "preparing connection" for almost a day. Finally I unplugged the box, waited about .5 hrs and restarted the box. This time it goes straight to the Guided Setup, it does not see the video feed (I skipped this step) and then it stops at the same place as before.

I can't do the kickstart via 57-mfs because I can't seem to get the pause button to turn the yellow light -- can somebody post detail instructions on how to do this. What I have found on the forums doesn't seem to work -- I'm afraid that I'm doing something wrong.

Any help or suggestions will be much appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure it is getting on the network to make that connection?
I was clearing a Series 1 with a Turbonet card, I was interrupted, when I got back to it, I was at the same spot in the setup. You said it was at the 'Preparing Connection" a day.

yup-

I called Tivo again, I tried to kickstart it again (with their help) and after 3 hours they told me that I need to exchange it...

I'm off to Circuit City to get a new one
