So my guess is that either Kellie or Paris go home tonight..
Simon and Randy said they were too harsh on Katharine last night... Too bad they didn't do this last night when it might of helped in the votes!
Elliott and Taylor safe.. YES Kat and Chris safe and received the highest amount of votes last night!
Kellie is gone!!!!!!!!!!! I think she expected it too..
Well well, an apology for Katharine. I knew they were wrong. She had better still be in this thing!

A perfect time to pick Pickler.
Had Kat been voted off, do you think we'd have heard an apology?

Yay! I was hoping Paris of Pickles would go.
And I'm so glad that even with the two big negatives going against Katharine, that she made the top 2, joining Chris there (no surprise from me that he was there):
1) Going first.
2) Having the judges gang up on her (unjustly, as they were at least big enough to apologize for - Simon and Randy, at least).

Had Kat been voted off, do you think we'd have heard an apology?
The apology came before the results were announced, and supposedly the judges aren't told in advance what the results are, so my guess is that the beginning part of the show, including the apology from Simon and Randy, would have been the same.

Kinda funny how the judges said how bad Kat was... Go figure she was in the top two in votes. It seems just cuz its a Whitney or Mariah or Celine Deion, they can't pull it off just cuz they don't sing or sound the same. But they also tell them to put their own spin on it.
Confused..

Oh, it that why? I thought it was cuz they didn't know what the theme wuz going to be next week yet, cuz maybe they wuz lazy and didn't plan ahead, or cuz they're so popular they don't think they need a theme, cuz people will watch anyway.

Agreed.
I was ready for either to go home, but my dislike for Paris is much larger than for Kelly. Not that Kelly is a better singer, because she clearly isn't, but I enjoyed having her around a lot more.
Please, let the Munchkin be next.

Um, speak for yourself. The only thing about her was that she was annoying as hell, and I still firmly believe the country hick act was layed on thicker than stucco. (She might have slight hick tendencies, but she exaggerated them to an annoying degree.)
Good riddance. Glad she's gone. Sad she couldn't have left sooner.

I guess that is definitely a matter of taste. Personally, I was completely embarrassed by her and cringed every time she opened her mouth. I thought she completely overdid the "aw, shucks!" act until it became ridiculous. As a lifelong southerner, I am well aware that many people in the North think we are all uneducated morons and she was only too happy to play up that stereotype.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass, Kellie.
Edited to add: Yeah, what LoadStar said. Great minds and all that. Heh.
I'd just like to say that while I totally hate the concept of American Idol, I watch it because it just looks so beautiful in HD.
That being said, I kinda expected the girl from NC (Kellie) to go. As for her being ashamed - why would she be ashamed?

Dialidol and Votefortheworst both smashed on the same show. How nice.
And when I say that about dialidol, I realize they predicted the bottom two, as useful as that might seem.. but some people might have suggested it also accurately measured the rest of the rankings and it clearly didn not do that today.

As far as DialIdol is concerned - how exactly did it get 'smashed'? (I presume by 'smashed' you mean "debunked" or something)
DialIdol predicted it would be either Paris or Kellie to leave this week. Both are shown in red on the website, indicating that it was too close to call statistically. I'd consider that a pretty good prediction.
The only thing odd about the results was Katharine's and Taylor's placements. They should've been flip-flopped and the results would've been dead-on.
Edit: You added the second sentence to your post after I responded. In any case, it's pretty much what I had said about DialIdol - the bottom tier is easy to predict using their method of deducing placement from busy signal frequency. Anything outside that - very difficult.

and WTH was that at the end. It CERTAINLY was NOT Daniel Powter singing 'Bad Day'. This is one of the best parts of the results show. I don't know who was singing it, but he was awful.

A bit surprised that Paris is still alive. Pickler fell from the top 2 to out of it really quick...and deservingly so. She was just out of her league in the singing department. Now we truly have the top 5 singers left. Pretty cool.
Also surprised that Taylor wan't in the top 2. He's been in the top spot on DialIdol EVERY week. It still bodes well for him that he hasn't been in the bottom 3 yet (all the others HAVE) so it seems like he has the strongest fan base. But a few more performances like this week and he could be in trouble. I still say he sails through to the finals and wins it over Chris.

Nope. This is from the official website.
"Now, Tuesday at 8/7c the Final 5 will be performing two songs each – one from the year they were born and any song from this week’s Top 10 Billboard Charts. Then, come back for the results Wednesday 9/8c."
If it is anything like the "Songs from the 21st Century", we are in for a long night. Wonder if anyone will sing "Bad Day"?

Finally - the Pickle Chick is gone - HOORAY!
I know he can't win this, but I still love Elliot. There is just something about his voice that is so smooth and wonderful. He is a bit odd to watch, but if you heard him on the radio, I think he has the most marketable sound of anyone remaining.
I think this will be an interesting finish - I really cannot predict who will be the final 2. I do think the final 3 will be Taylor, Katherine and Chris - but it would be nice if Elliot could get there!

Here's my take......don't believe they hype, Simon was told beforehand that Katharine finished in the top two in voting. That, of course, would make his commentary irrelevant, so in order to save face he said he watched again and 'decided' that Katharine did a good job after all.
I predicted he would flip-flop on Elliott if he wound up near the bottom after Simon swooned over his performance, would say he watched it again and it wasn't that good.
If Katharine had wound up at the bottom this week he would have sat there smugly and continued with his 'you're no Whitney Houston' mantra.

I didn't care for Katharine's performance this week (and I generally like her). Hearing the judges, made me re-affirm my initial opinion. Which is why I was very confused at the apology  .
But overall, this was definitely a good week:
1. The right person left
2. Chris was in top 2
3. Tailor wasn't in top 2 (deservingly so)
I am really hoping for Chris, Tailor and Katharine final 3. And it looks like we may get that :).

And where does Paris get off saying she has not been in the bottom two? She was in the bottom 3 before and then Ryan sent her back and told her she was safe. I don’t recall him ever saying that she wasn’t in the bottom 2 that week. He just chose (or someone chose) who they wanted the last two on stage to be for dramatic effect.

Even as a straight guy, I was a ready for her to go a while back. The “blond act” wore really thin on after a while…

Ha! I bet Simon regrets saying that he preferred Pickler to Carrie Underwood now. She butchered his favorite song and (once again) looked like she got shot with Homer's makeup shotgun!

Meh, I prefer pickler too. Not like I'll be buying albums from either of them.
Speaking of albums, I listened to the gray charles stuff... I think you guys are overrating it. Maybe it's just the amateur sound quality... it didn't do anything for me. I liked maybe one song of the various mp3s. Give me BB King any day of the week...
I guess there's potential. It reminds me of early My Morning Jacket, with the sound reverb and studio issues. They cranked out a masterpiece in Z, so maybe there's hope for Taylor.

Isnt' there such a thing as an HD camera? And "live" shows like AI and sports use these "better" cameras? 24 is just upconverted to HD from the original shot?

There are HD cameras (they are video cameras). Not sure how 24 is shot. It's either shot on FILM, then telecined to video (SD or HD), or it could be shot directly in HD Video. Some hour long dramas ARE shot directly in HD with HD video cameras. But I think most of them are still shot in film.
Shooting HD is yet another consideration for a cinematographer. The way you light a shot, the color of the scenery/background, etc. all play a roll in the way something looks. And that scene can look different in video (standard def.) vs. film vs HD video. A good person will learn what works best with what format and adjust accordingly.

You have it screwed up. Ryan said that Taylor and Elliot were the MIDDLE two and that the top and bottom pairs were remaining.
Bah, wife must have been talking during that part. Thanks for clearing that up.

Um, speak for yourself. The only thing about her was that she was annoying as hell, and I still firmly believe the country hick act was layed on thicker than stucco. (She might have slight hick tendencies, but she exaggerated them to an annoying degree.)
Never met anyone from Albermarle, NC, I'd wager.
A small amount of it could be an act but most of it probably isn't. There really are people like that still in the world, especially in NC :)
It ain't all big city here!

Oh lord, please let that be a typo where you meant to say billboard top 100. The top 10 is garbage. I am secretly hoping that hollaback girl makes its way back up there so chris can sing it.
Last year when they did this, I think the contestants were permitted to pick a song on the top 10 of any Billboard chart, not just the Top 10 on the Hot 100 chart (which, BTW, has 6 rap tracks in it - nobody on AI is going to perform those). I think I remember Carrie singing something in the top 10 on the country chart.
That's why AmericanIdol.com says "Billboard Charts."

Ah... that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up. Lots of choices then. I need to hear the new tool song, I can totally picture chris trying and messing up tool.

I just added a new thread to discuss predictions on who will sing what on the Billboard Top 10 charts:

Are you in her immediate family, or just a distant relative? :)
I think he's finally over Karen (big brother) and moving on to the younger crowd.
Regarding HD, I realize the lighting etc is much different for a tv drama vs a live show, and perhaps that is it. But I do like the PQ of AI and stuff like nascar, even on fox.
I wonder why pickles didnt have green shadow on? Would have been more appropriate

That was a DIRECT copy and paste from the Idol website. It says "this week’s Top 10 Billboard Charts" So only 10 songs to choose from.
Edit: Well, I guess there are numerous top 10 lists on Billboard they will get to choose from. But it wasn't top 100.
Edit #2: I now re-read the posts and aindik probably has it right.

Is it time to start a weekly poll for who TivoCommunity thinks should win? I believe LoadStar did this last year.

Is it time to start a weekly poll for who TivoCommunity thinks should win? I believe LoadStar did this last year.
What I did last year was start the threads after the episode ended, and included a multiple-choice poll asking who you would vote for if you were to vote, based SOLELY on the performance of THAT EVENING.
For the last episode, I had a single-choice poll asking who you would want to win.
Since the current trend this year is to start the thread at the beginning of the episode, if there were a poll included, people would just vote for whomever they have as a favorite contestant, regardless of the performance of the evening... so that's probably pointless.
