They're ramping into the series finale, aren't they?
Damn you, Scrubs! It wasn't even a good episode and I got all teary eyed.

Series Finale? I thought even if the show got dumped by NBC it is going to ABC?
I thought Todd going gay was pretty funny. I actually appreciate the humanity aspect of Scrubs. Although I can say that this season has probably been the consistently highest level of any season.

They've really developed Cox's descent into frustration well. The story was a little weak but otherwise pretty good.

This show has gotten worse each season. Season 1 and 2 are greatness, but everything else has been weak. I think a lot of the good drama and comedy mixture from early on is gone, and what it is currently is, is far from where it started. It tries to hard to be funny, and they have made JD's character almost unlikeable.
I am glad it is almost over.

I really enjoyed this episode. No it wasn't super funny, but the serious part was very well done.

I always add something new. The destruction of JD's character is a new wrinkle this season.
Last season it was the tired bit of Dr. Cox.
Two seasons ago it was the introduction to the quick high pitched talking Sarah Chaulk Sarcasm that was a beating and still is.
If all you want in thread is roses that is cool, but differing opinions is what makes life interesting. I loved this show early on, and I will see it through but I am sorry to see something so great turn into what it is now. A lowbrow run of the mill sitcom.

Fine. Sorry. It's not that I expect a thread about a show to be roses and sunshine, but it just seems pointless to keep watching and commenting on something you now obviously hate/dislike. From now on I wont say anything. Again, sorry.

No need to apologize. I can see how it was thread crapping to some and I certainly didn't intend that. I understand how those who still love the show are annoyed by my negativity. My perspective is I loved this show when Brendon Fraser and MJ Fox were around. It felt different to me. I put in all those years watching so I will see it through and I was pretty certain with the ratings the show garners this is it for the show. I hoped Scrubs would end strong and maybe it still can. I am sure you have had a show that you loved that lost it for you but you followed it to the end. You might not have been able to contain your disappointment like a broken record because your expectations of the show started so high. If I feel the need to go negative from here on out I will list a specific instance where I got angry and see if that is less irritating to others and we can discuss that specific instance.

At the end when JD said the whole "you can't blame yourself" thing, I thought for sure that Cox was going to say, "I don't blame myself, I blame you", since JD was the one who got him the damaged goods.

Was anyone else in awe of the acting of John C McGinley in coordination with that awesome song? (I looked it up, by the Fray) I really felt they went somewhere new with that episode. Who knows, but I will follow...

They sure love having Dr. Cox hate Hugh Jackman. This episode was the 4th time that they had him say something in one of his rants about Jackman. It was also interesting that the repeat they showed last night also had a Jackman rant.

I knew how it was going to end. The producers have said that they intend to wind down the season with
Dr. Cox becoming an alcoholic
and this was the obvious catalyst for that.
Knowing where they are going, I thought this was a decent episode. Had I not known that, I might be a bit more critical. It had an air of "we didn't try too hard" about it, particularly in the medical stuff. I mean, Scrubs has never tried too very hard to seem realistic medically, and it doesn't need to (it's a show set in a hospital, not a hospital show) but the transplant/rabies thing just played out as plain silly. Granted it was a means to an end, but still. It's not the first time this season I've been pulled out of the story by the way they presented something. The show really seems to have abandoned any real attempts at medical verisimilitude.
And I agree with twincam -- all that The Todd, and no high fives?

I was totally surprised that The Todd was smart enough to see the gay allegations as a chance to get closer to the girls instead of getting offended and defensive. Good for The Todd! He got to see "the girls."

I don't get this comment. You really think this season has incorporated the humanity aspect better than other seasons? I think this season, while still funny and better than other sitcoms, has been the most inconsistent from both a humor and humanity aspect and I agree with Whitson that they've turned JD into an unlikeable caricature of his former self.

This should have been a 2-parter, so that the "bra shopping with Elliot" scene didn't happen off-screen. :D
Bill Lawrence is 100% certain (http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Archive2006/060407.html) there's going to be a sixth season of "Scrubs," so for those of you who think the show has been going steadily downhill since the second season, or since the second episode, or since the second page of the pilot script...well, guess it hasn't reached the bottom of the valley yet.

Nothing run of the mill about it. In fact some of the things you lauded it for in an earlier post are actually more evident this season than any previous season. I think the first few seasons it was often over the top goofball and surreal.

There really isn't any way you can compare JD from season 1-2 to this season. Driving his scooter through an underground puddle, not funny. Hanging onto a slow moving shopping cart to avoid someone in a grocery store. Imagining people Dr. Cox and patient taking both kidneys wasn't funny. I used to laugh at this show, but the writing has gotten so pathetic and over the top I don't. It seems like the last couple episode arc might be redeemable with the Dr. Cox storyline and I hope it is, but having JD turn into Homer this season was pretty sad. For 2/3rds of the show he is a complete idiot.
The last 5 minutes of the episodes are the only redeemable minutes this season for the most part. A good example is "My Lunch" the end was very strong, but there really hasn't been much of that this season. I'm not alone in this. I used to know a lot of people that watch and they bailed on the show. The ratings have gone down every year.

Funny you say that. I wouldn't call it unrealistic. The plot was (loosely) based on something that happened in real life about 2 years ago. See the CNN (http://www.cnn.com/2004/HEALTH/07/01/rabies.organ.transplant/index.html)
story.

Of course there were gags in season 1. It just wasn't as over the top as they are now. It was funnier. The Todd, Janitor, and Ted in moderation were greatness back then.

Actually, Trainman's avatar looks like Scott Peterson.
And just to get back on topic...
While not every episode is top-notch, this is still a great show! And my wife finally noticed a couple of episodes ago that Sarah Chalke is HOT! She never agreed with me before but then said it the other night.
I think trainman's avatar looks like Dean Cain playing Scott Peterson :)

Scrubs has never been strong in the ratings.
Quite honestly, it seems like the general public never quite "got" it ala Arrested Development.
And with the way NBC has played ping pong with Scrubs schedule, all over the week, it's hard for Joe Sixpack just to keep up.
And most shows lose ratings every year. Scrubs is no exception in this regard.

Why do you spend so much time watching a show that you clearly dislike, and then posting in a thread saying how much you hate it? Do you have that much time on your hands? If I have a show that I've watched and it goes downhill to the point that Scrubs seems to have gotten with you, I don't watch it. And if I do watch it, I'm not posting about it in an online thread. I'm guessing many others here are in a similar situation.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion - I'm not trying to say to shut up and leave these threads. But I'm really kind of curious why you keep watching. You pine for the days of seasons 1 and 2...it's been 3 years. It's probably not going to get to a spot you expect it to, so it wouldn't really make sense to keep watching because you think it's going to get better.
Back on topic, I thought it was a decent episode - still better than most, and Cox's humanity in this episode really showed. I'm really hoping McGinley will get some Emmy recognition one of these days.

Hmm...Find where I said I hate the show. I have already posted, in this thread alone, that I am watching to see how the show ends. Learn to read better and not spout posts misquoting me. I know several people who have the same problems with JD this season. GASP, some of them post on this very forum...
While it is true that Scrubs has never been strong in the ratings, they have gone down every season. I would be surprised if NBC picks it up and even more surprised if they don't and ABC snatches it up.
The ending of this episode was strong, and there is hope for the final few episodes but more of the season needs to have the drama mixed with "good" comedy. Less of JD being an unbelievable idiot. Less of Chaulk's high pitched saracasm, more of Cox as a human being. Just my opinions. Relax and know it is okay to have a difference of opinion.

Totally agree, although I still find the episodes gripping and I will watch them 'til the end, I do find JD's character annoying, a complete turn-around from what it was originally. This is not character development, just lazy script writing, and his character has made Scrubs into a slapstick show with physical humour that does not even imitate former series. I mean, JD falling off a shopping trolley was obviously intended as a big joke, and I just sat there wide-eyed in despair.
Having said all this, I still am a "fan", I couldn't stop watching just because it's going through an albeit large "poor spell", and I still will watch it and be sad when it ends. I just hope, probably futilely, for better episodes in the future.
