Can replacement disk on TivO be larger than max acceptable size

I have an HDR112 with a dead hard drive that I am attempting to replace. The max addressable capacity for the model is 120GB. IF I buy a 160 GB drive, would there be an issue with the drive working with the TiVo

Actually its maximum addressable capacity is 137GB, which is how much your Tivo will "see" if you use 160GB drive. Check out the resources in the Tivo Upgrade Center Forum here for more info.

You could put a 500 GB drive in your Tivo if you wanted to and it wouldn't be any more complicated than if you were upgrading it with a 20GB drive.
