No spoilers or anything here, but some people are fans, some aren't of BJ and Tyler "The Hippies" on this season's The Amazing Race.
Treehugger, of all sites, has a mention of them today:
http://www.treehugger.com/files/2006/04/bj_and_tyler_fr.php
I think I'd heard about Tyler walking the length of Japan, but hadn't heard he had a DVD of the trip. Wandering around the site linked to from Treehugger I came across this music video:
http://www.kintarowalksjapan.com/music.html
Only Tyler is there, but watching this video was probably enough for them to get picked for the race. You even get a quick peek of the frog hats we saw earlier this race. I lived in Japan for a year, but Tyler's more outgoing in his sleep than I ever will be. I might just have to get the DVD.

I love these guys as much as I liked The Clowns from a few seasons back. I hope they make it all the way.
Like The Clowns, they seem to b the ones who are enjoying both the competition and being in these exotic locales. They're usually considerate of the locals and don't contribute to the Ugly American stereotype.

The one and only Miss Alli on TWoP is perhaps the best known BJ/Tyler basher. She can't stand a bit of what they do and constantly pines for their Philimination.
Of course, she probably hates me, too. :D

She sounds like a very unhappy person.
Or a closet Republican.
Either one is as bad as the other :D

My absolute favorite contestants - perhaps of all time. Like the clowns and the cha-cha-cha boys, they're having FUN! That, in turn, makes them fun to watch. They seem to know a bit of every language known, or at least pick up a few words here and there and are respectful (always) in other countries without being nauseating. What's not to like????

TWoP? Although I should probably stay away from there if there's a lot of hippie bashing going on!

Somehow I missed the link on KintaroWalksJapan.com showing the link to the video on Google Video. Oh well, if he doesn't win the million he already got $16 from me.

I'm hoping they can rebound from the last place and stay in the race.
Any predictions?

I ordered the DVD. As I was sniffing around, found another page on his walk:
http://buckswoodside.com/kintaro/ Makes Tyler look accomplished at being able to get money from locals.
Wikipedia entry on his girlfriend's father:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Meegan
Holder of 8 world records, including the longest continuous foot journey in history (19,019 miles.)
I'm sure he's racking up points with George on this trip. Maybe he and BJ are actually behaving as if their friends and relatives were watching.

TWoP is television without pity-- one of the big sites for people who like to endlessly discuss tv shows. When I used to go there I found some really interesting comments, but just to keep up with a single thread can be a serious time commitment (and they do not take kindly to smeeking). Recapping is a good example-- Miss Alli will produce a very clever summary/commentary for each episode of TAR (right down to telling you what commercials aired), but it'll be at least 15 pages. Oh and their servers tend to be slooow.

Sorry about that, I missed the question about the acronym.
Yep, Miss Alli (TAR recapper there) hates the hippies. She softened a bit in the last leg she recapped, but she still doesn't like 'em. And their "T-TTOW" drives her NUTS.
They'll also have to turn over all their possessions except for what they're wearing and their passports. This means that they are going to wear those (bleep)ing "T-TOW" shirts for the rest of the race. Tyler explains that they don't really think possessions are important anyway. They're going to be "complete BJ and Tyler and nothing else." They vow to remain goofy at all times. Well, that's a (bleep)in' relief.
(curses bleeped by me)
Normally, she's snarky, but at teams I hate...this time, well, she sounds like she's been dumped by her heartless boyfriend or something. :D
Here's her recaps.

I watched that Kintaro walks Japan a while ago. Pretty good stuff.
People don't like them because they think they are fake and play to the cameras. I think whatever. They're just having fun and treating this as an adventure.

They are "playing to the cameras", no question, and overdo it by a factor of 10. It's a schtick to them, and even going onto the mat they have to "perform".
But...to me? It doesn't matter. The part about them having fun, getting along with each other and generally being in a decent mood overrides the other stuff for me. I like them because I think when they shut off the performing and are not in front of the camera, they are probably decent, nice people who like both themselves and others.

I have always liked the hippies. They have fun and they are normally still competitive. They are also much nicer to other teams than I would be.... and I give them kudos for that.

One of my faves as well. Makes watching this rather bland season a little bearable. Where's Flo, Colin or Rob/Amber when we need them? Maybe CBS should rethink the All Stars version...

They've been my favorite team since the beginning. I like people who are respectful, take a second to learn how to say thank you in a different language, are nice to their teammates and competitors, and take the time to have fun!
Plus, I'm an alumna of Oberlin College, hippie central! :D

I like 'em.
The frat boys winning most races easily makes me think they need to make things a bit more intellectually puzzling, rather than strength and endurance.
