So I set up my parents' new Series 2 Stand alone TiVo yesterday, and everything seemed to go smoothly. At first it only had guide data for a couple of days, but before I went to sleep last night it had the full two weeks of guide data, and by this morning it had received the 7.2.2-oth.01-2-540 software update. We had set up about 25 season passes last night. So I was pretty surprised this morning to find that the TiVo had not yet recorded a single suggestion. And yes, I do have suggestions enabled.

Although we have not yet "thimbed" andy programs, I thought anything recorded (or at least anything recorded with a season pass) was by defualt given one thumbs-up. So I expected the TiVo to have recorded at least some suggestions by now.

I guess my question boils down to is it normal for the TiVo to have not recorded any suggestions yet, under these circumstances? Do we actually need to give a thumbs up to something before it will start recording suggestions? Or is this perhaps normal, because the TiVo is extremely busy processing guide data, or doing other things?

Thanks in advance.
Andy W.
PS-I did search first, but every thread I found seemed to be discussing the new vs. old suggestion algorithm. I couldn't find anything on a new TiVo not recording suggestions.

Besides the fact that it takes a Tivo a little time to do everything it needs to do (indexing) after starting from scratch, it's also entirely possible for nothing to be recorded as a suggestion simply because there isn't anything in the schedule that it wants to suggest.
Try a little patience.

That said - several years ago I bought a new Tivo, set it up and watched a couple programs but didn't record them or schedule any other recordings. The next morning I had 3 suggestions in the now playing list.

Thanks. After posting, I checked the area where I could find TiVo suggestions the unit was planning on recording, and there were some there. So all is well, which is pretty much what I expected. (I just wanted to make sure.)

Thanks.
