I upgraded my DirecTivo HDVR2 about 2 years ago. My tivo started stuttering, then died. I have founds lots of details about a first time upgrad but not too much about replacing a dead upgrade drive.

My question is to replace the second drive do I need to remarry the main drive to the upgrade drive? Also what are the chances I will be able to copy the data off of my original upgrade drive? Any other information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mike

You can just copy the second drive. if you wish to use additional capacity, you need to run mfsadd, with both drives.

If you can "binary" copy (see dd dd_rescue) the failing second drive to a new drive you should be able to just replace the old drive with the new recovered drive. If you can not recover the "dead" drive you will need to start over with the backup image or find an image for your TiVo.

So I went and bought a hard drive today, downloaded MFS tools and printed out Hinsdales How-to. Then I get home and the damn Tivo is working again! What are the odds it has fixed itself? Would you replace the hard drive just to be safe?
