i seem to remember way back when tivo desktop was announced that you could supposedly burn dvds of saved shows and the dvd would have a tivo-style menu that looked exactly like it would look on your tivo.

i finally got a series2 tivo and networked it and can't believe i now have to use so many programs + make my own menus to watch my shows on dvd.

what happened to the tivo menu on dvd? was that just a killed feature? not to be a downer but this whole tivo2go thing seems more like an eager community hack than an official company release.

in the meantime i'm going to go check out videoredo and see what all the fuss is about :)

The TiVo models that have DVD burners built-in produce a DVD with a TiVo style menu interface. I'd bet dollars to donuts that is what you were thinking of.

Yeah, there was never anything said about TTG and TiVo style menus, jkovach is right, you're confusing the features of the DVRs with built-in DVD burners. Given all the issues with software compatibility and codec compatibility, it would be nice if TiVo came out with software that did TiVo-style menus and handled burning etc. Even if they charged for it I would think it would be worth it.

ah yes, that must have been it.

so the next question must be obvious ;) how long until this becomes a feature for the rest of us?

i've just finished the laborious process of transferring files, editing in videoredo and designing a menu and burning in nerovision express. and all i can say is...whew.. i hope my little boy appreciates the 3 1/2 hours of my life i devoted to putting 4 episodes of maisy onto a dvd for the car!!

and by all means, charge me for it, it would save me the hassle to do it all from one interface on tivo desktop.

Actually you're NOT mistaken! TiVo originally said you'd be able to burn DVDs, with TiVo style menus, using a special TiVo enabled version of Sonic MyDVD. Unfortunately the Sonic software fell well short of expectations. :(
