One of their better efforts, IMO. With some great lines from Barney.

I liked how right after he introduced Mary he said "I'll be back in two shakes of a lamb's tail"...
What I don't get is why Barney got the hotel room for Mary and Ted. How did he know they'd hit it off so well?

I think Barney always has a hotel room waiting.

"You just got lawyered!" I may have to add that to my vocabulary. :)
Very funny ep. When she talked about her clients riding her all day and the one guy that was so anal, I was actually giggling audibly. I picked up on the "twist" pretty early on (when they were talking at the table), but still well-played.
Oh, and Mary was *hot*. Smokin'.

Well... Since it was mostly guys commenting... Not really, Emily :)
He did a good job. I laughed at him and the stark comparison to him on Buffy and Angel.
The twist was rather obvious. I was kinda hoping that Ted would pick up on it, or somehow find a way to overcome it to get back at Barney.

Yea, I pretty much had that figured out before they left the bar and went to the award show. They way they are kind of reminds me of Seth and Summer from The OC.
How low was it of Robin, not to mention Ted as her friend during her speech.

Robin's acceptance speech was really harsh.

In my opinion --- unforgiveable. I would've walked out then and there and never talked to her again. Period.
In fact, let me go on record that I no longer like Robin. And I don't want him with her after that.

I loved this ep! It's just too far between new eps anymore and this is quickly becoming one of my favorite shows and probably my favorite comedy. Other than "Earl" which has been hit and miss lately, I think this is the only sitcom I record anymore...
ETA: As a red-blooded American male I feel compelled to also add that Mary was indeed smokin' hot.

I was thinking 'Mary the paralegal? Marry the paralegal!'
We never did actually see her slap Ted BTW. I was half expecting Ted to turn the tables on Barney again. Who knows, we've seen events turn out differently in flashbacks episodes later before on this show.

Now, what I do not get is this, once Marry found out what really happened, wouldn’t SHE want to get back at Barney for what he did?
I also wouldn’t rule out her getting together with Ted. For the most part, he did the right thing that night… And I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing more of Mary on this show :).

But that would break the sitcom law!!! If something can be solved by a simple explanation, simple explanation will never be given or be allowed to be given.

For some reason, this episode seemed out of order. This episode might have been better had this all happened before Victoria (the baker) met Ted.
In the previous show, Robin caught Ted lying about breaking up with Victoria. Under the circumstances, I would think she'd be trying to get back at him rather than trying to get him jealous.

Best. Episode. Ever!
Barney had so many great lines it's hard to pick 'em all out (though "count again" is up there). I thought the telepathic conversations were clever, especially when Lily picked up on the fact that Mary was a hooker.
This show is now tied for my favorite sitcom along with The Office.

Very funny episode. I had my suspicions as to whether or not she was really a hooker, but as soon as she named a real law firm I knew she really was a paralegal.

I didn't realize that she was a paralegal until we were told so. I just thought that was where a recent client of hers worked.

I thought maybe she was a real paralegal, but that she might just use that name as a cover or that she was a paralegal and a hooker working her way through law school for the children. ;)
Great episode though. Barney rocks!
Not quite beleviing this is a story you would tell your high school aged kids though.

Were'nt misunderstandings the sole plot device for every Three's Company episode? That was a pretty funny show, if I recall.

Yeah, that was back dozens of years ago though. These days it's not funny anymore, I'm all "misunderstanding'd out". kind of like how if someone made an action movie using special effects from the 60's it wouldn't be as exciting. I also don't want to see any episodes that resemble a full house episode.

I'm thinking that they are intentionally making her less likeable since so many people wanted her and Ted to get together and they can't have her be the kids mother. That way the veiwers will not be so mad when it does not happen.

It was basically a misunderstanding plot though, even though there wasn't actually a misunderstanding. It had that same double meaning in-joke dramatic irony crap. In reality she would have said something a lot more mundane like, "The clients at the law firm were really testing my patience. It took me hours to get some peace and quiet at the office" and not "Those clients rode me hard and long and gave me rugburns" or whatever.

It was slightly less innocuous unless you thought she was a hooker to start with. Knowing she was a paralegal, which was stated at the table, it wouldn't have caused any confusion by what she said:
"My clients rode me all day. One guy wouldn't leave me alone. Talk about anal."
There isn't anything there really suggestive in normal conversation.

That way the veiwers will not be so mad when it does not happen.Thank you! Everyone here is harshing on Robin big-time, but I think we only have ourselves to blame. For so long everyone has wanted Robin and Ted to get together, because of the great chemistry between them, but we know that they are not meant to be. You've just articulated exactly what I was thinking - this is how the producers tell us, "Kids, it ain't happening. Aunt Robin and Ted are done."

I disagree. They seem to be telling us "Robin and Ted's love story is epic". All these conflicts and confusions always lead to increased viewer-wanting-them-to-hookup-ship. Of course, if the show is really smart it really would be robin and ted are done. But since it's not on FX or HBO, I refuse to hope thus.
