I bought a Maxtor 300 GB Quick View HD to replace the failed 160 GB Maxtor HD in my HDR 112.

I notice on the label it says DiamondMax 10.

I assume this drive will not work in my series 1 TIVO?

It should be a 6L300R0 which is a DiamondMax 10.

I do not know if any of the series 1 TiVos have a kernel that supports LBA48, If not I think there is a mod somewhere.

Sure, it will work in your Series 1. But your Tivo will only "see" 137GB of its capacity.

Ok, well I upgraded my TIVO last year with dual 160's and was able to use LBA48.

I was just not expecting the QV HD to say DiamondMax 10 on it.

It is indeed a 6L300R0.

Thx for the info...

Oh, one more thing...

One of the 160 was skipping, I have a ton of recorded shows on them.

Will I be able to go from dual 160's to a single 300 and save all my programs?

The TIVO was stuck in an endless reboot loop. Should I assume those recordings are lost?

You might be able to recover the bad drive with something like SpinRite then dd the failing drive to the new drive keeping the pair intact. I do not know of any way to go from dual drives back to a single drive keeping recordings without off-loading the recordings somewhere.

Well, the recordings are not that important I guess.

I want to go back to a single drive, as I think heat definitely had something to do with the dual 160 setup.

They were dual 5400 RPM drives, and I did do the acoustic setting, as well as modify the TIVO case and put HD fans blowing on the drives...

I now have the TIVO running with the original A back in it, and the latest software.

I'll just do a single to single upgrade, cache card, etc No recordings...

Thank you all for your help.
