Something has become corrupted on my 60 hour Series 2. It has taken to randomly rebooting. I transferred everything onto a new hard drive, but it still reboots. I've managed to transfer off all of the programs I *have* to see, so now I'm ready to start over.

If I use the reset function that's built in to the TiVo, will I just be reinstalling the same possible corruption, or will it download fresh software from TiVo? Or, if I really want a clean install, do I need to buy InstantCake?

In an odd twist, the TiVo has been doing fine (on the new drive) since I disconnected the cable TV to pull it out of the cabinet. When I thought it was fine, and reconnected the cable, it almost immediately crashed. So now I've been running for nearly 24 hours with no cable and no reboots. When I get to 24 hours I'll reconnect and see what happens.

The Tivo's "Clear and Delete Everything" doesn't actually download or install any new software, it just re-initializes the hard drive and resets all settings to factory defaults. InstantCake is the way to go if you want a "fresh start".

You may want to wait for the "fix" before you do anything too drastic.

I've been following the thread on the 7.2.2 rebooting issue, but I'm only on version 7.2.1. I suspect I didn't get the .2 update because of my USB/ethernet adaptor.

I have confirmed that it only reboots when connected to the CATV. After 24 hours of running fine (without the Cable hookedup), it rebooted within 60 seconds of reconnecting the cable. I'll see what TiVo support has to say about that in the morning.
