View Full Version : 2nd drive dead, can I save the recordings on 1st drive?

I have a S2 (540) Tivo with 2 drives. The 2nd drive was added with mfsadd. A few days ago, the 2nd drive died (weird noise, BIOS cannot recognize the drive)

It seems I cannot mfsbackup from the 1st disk any more since the 2nd disk is missing. Is there a way to re-marry this disk to a new 2nd disk without losing existing data on the 1st disk?

I was able to restore my original backup to a new drive so I can continue to use the Tivo, but I would like to save as much of the recordings on the 1st drive if that is possible. I am DDing the 1st disk to another new drive so I have a backup of the 1st drive if I can figure out a way to get the recordings from it.

Oh yeah, I am also trying to recover data from the dead 2nd disk. I am even trying the freezer trick.

It is too bad we cannot run raid in a Tivo.

TIA.

I found a reference to -E option in mfsbackup. I will try this when I finish DDing the original disk.
