Hi All -
Its unfortunate that my first message posting at this site is to ask for help, however I have a problem with a recently purchased (used) tivo. For background, its a two disk machine, with turbonet and tivoweb installed. I have had it working for about 4 hours, the programme directory was updated and I managed to record the F1 Qualifying this afternoon successfully ... so it was working.

Problem came when I attempted to use the guided setup to change the service provider and postcode details. After entering my postcude the tivo diallled up over the network connection to get the details, returned stating that no details were available for my area. It then hung ... not allowing me forward or back. After being stuck at this point for about 15mins I hard rebooted the tivo. I am now aware that this was probably not the best idea I have had all day.

So... when I restart the tivo it gets to the 'Almost there' screen and no matter how long its left it does not move forward. I have managed to telnet into the bash prompt, so I think the network and disks are ok.

Question is - what do I need to do to get this thing booted?

I am sure I am not the first to be in this situation and I appreciate any guidance.

Thanks in advance -

Paul

I renamed the modemtest file to modemtest.old but the tivo is hanging in the same place. Any more ideas gratefully received.

One other thing I recall can stop Tivo is a remote with a button stuck down blasting IR.

Do the front LED's ever display anything during boot up?

All the main Tivo experts seem to be absent tonight!

If you have network access you could try forcing a GSOD with

mfsassert -please

at the bash prompt.

It sounds like something got corrupted when you rebooted in the middle of the GS, but there could also have been an underlying drive problem. What size/make are the drives?

If my memory serves me right, the TiVo will display two amber lights at boot-up if it is being blasted with IR.

Alright - GSOD initiated and has been running for about an hour. FWIW - there are 2 disks in the machine - a 40 and an 80.
