I just got my Tivos with HMO set up and I'm currently running on a 802.11B network. I only have one wireless adapter so I haven't been able to try the MRV stuff yet. Before I go out and buy another 802.11B Wireless USB adapter, I want to know if it's worth it to upgrade everything to Wireless G? Or is B enough because the USB interface would be a bottleneck in a G network?

Thanks in advance.

I upgraded to 'g' to help out MRV, and it makes quite a difference. With 'b', I had to start a show transferring about a half hour before I could watch it on the receiving unit. With 'g', it only needs a minute or two head start, and I even at best quality the transmission keeps up.

Just be sure to switch everything on your net to 'g'; if you mix 'b' and 'g' stuff, the net will slow everyting down to 'b' speeds.

Also, the Tivo 'g' wireless adapter is substantially faster than other 'g' wireless adapters. It costs no more and is well worth it.

I agree, upgrading to G makes a big difference in MRV. I use to have B and a D-link B adapter and MRV was slooooooooooow. After upgrading my network to G, setting it to G only, and buying the Tivo wireless adapter, things are great. Buy.com had a great price and free shipping on the tivo wireless adapter when I checked the other day.

With the cost to upgrade to G, I'm actually thinking about just paying someone to hard-wire my office to my living room and bedroom. I'm assuming I'll see even better performance this way, right?

Anyone that has their Tivos hard-wired, I'd be interested to know how long of a delay before you can start watching a program.

Hard wired is always the way to go if possible, it eliminates all sorts of potential problems. Usually it is more expensive then going wireless and that is why people opt for wireless.

FYI, that Tivo Wireless Adapter is so good that I don't see a noticeable difference in my setup between having both my tivos hardwired and one hardwired/one wireless (with Tivo adapter). I should note that my wireless Tivo is less then 30 feet from my router, if you are further with more obstacles (thick walls, etc.) you might not get the same great performance out of the wireless. But again, if you can get it hardwired cheaper then wireless, I say go for hardwired.

Hardwired is definitely the way to go,as soon as you plug that cable in it knows that you have gone to the network and not the phone. You can start watching almost immedietly,I was apprehensive about wireless because it said you could get interference from cordless phones and microwaves. Good Luck

I was thinking that the tests showed the bottleneck was in the USB port and that Wireless G and Wired speeds were comparible given no archectural or environmental issues on the wireless side.
