Hello Guys. Its a been a while since I have visited this forum and have not been up on the goings on in Tivoland. I would therefore appreciate any help you could give me. I've been using a Series 1 Philips DirecTivo now for a number of years along with an old Hughes HD Receiver. Due to the switch to MPEG4 I decided to wait for the NDS unit before upgrading to an HD DVR. However, as a result of the new 3 year deal with Tivo, the lack of the NDS unit, as well as the reviews I've been reading about the R15, I decided to call retention about getting the HD Tivo. Because I'm a "great" cusotmer I was offered a $250 credit and 6 months of $20 off for a total credit of $370. I was also told I could buy the HR10 at any online retailer and still receive the credit (e.g. newegg at $398). Although I will have to commit for 2 years, I see this as a no brainer. The HD Tivo is practically free and I was advised that when I decide to upgrade to the NDS unit when it becomes available, I will still be eligible for the switch even though I will have just taken advantage of this deal (I was told that the new 2 year commitment would just start from the date of the switch). Am I missing something here? I really don't want to wait any longer to record HD and I want to stop paying a mirroring charge for my current HD box. BTW, I already receive my locals on my OTA tuner via an antenna so I have no need for the Sat locals. Also of interest, the person I spoke with at retention told me that as a result of the new deal with Tivo, there will be a software upgrade for the HR10-250. Thanks for your help.

Since you can receive your locals OTA I would say go ahead and get it. The CSR have been saying that there will be a software upgrade for about 9 months now. CSR do not know about upcoming software. Take it with a huge gain of salt.

Since its been so long, I didn't realize there was an HD Tivo Powered Forum. Accordingly, I moved/started this thread there. Sorry for the inconvenience.
