I've been trying out my local comcast Motorola DVR lately, and while the UI sucks, the cost is pretty cheap for 1 year. So I just called to cancel my DirectTV subscription - CSR transfered me to Retention and this is what they offered me.

HR10-250 $499 - $150 = $349
Off Air antenna = $ 50
Shipping = $ 20
=========
$419

Now the discounts
3 Months HD package $30
$5 off for 6 months $60

Total cost $329

But to top if off, he stated that the new DirectTV HD box will be out in May or June! I asked him how come nobody else knows this and he didn't have a good answer. But he said (and noted it in my account) that the upgrade to the MPEG4 hardware from the HR10-250 will be at NO charge...

Is this good or not? Any thoughts on what I should do?

The deal seems a little high but I haven't really kept up on pricing since they went lease. As far as the other HD dvr I just got off the phone with a retention person about an email I sent and she claimed June. But I have heard anywhere from June to after Xmas so who knows.

If its going to use the same software as the R-15 then it better be. ;) I put up with the R-15 problems as it was free after rebate. If I paid $400-500+ for the MPEG4 HD DVR and it acted like this it would be returned in a blink. :cool:

you can own for 398 from newegg if that matters to you (8 bucks shipping)...not sure if they will apply the discounts unless you order from directv though

the directv OTA antenna has mixed results depending how far you are from the source

i just logged in and for existing customers the hdtivo is indeed 499 i guess the rebate i thought was there was for new customers only..oops

My neighbor's brother's cousin got a better deal than that.
